It pisses me off to no end to see these people living off Indigenous identity when most actual Indigenous people, … especially Indigenous youth … see their heritage as a burden rather than a blessing.

I’m full blooded Indigenous in northern Ontario, I speak my language, it was the first one I learned as a child before I was taught English and I’ve never enjoyed being who I was because that is what the rest of the world taught me. To see these arrogant people living off my misery is infuriating.

I pretend to not be Indian and I’m laughed at

They pretend to be Indian and they get to have everything

For what it’s worth as some bilingual white guy, I honestly admire the hell out of you for hanging onto your roots despite all the baggage it carries (through no fault of your own)

Just think of all the old racist white dudes turning in their graves knowing that even with all the power and advantages and systemic elimination of your culture and way of life you stand defiant in the face of hundreds of years of their efforts. As long as your culture lives, so do your ancestors in a way. Don’t let them take that from you or make you ashamed, I think it’s awesome.

Fuck the haters man, i think that’s pretty punk rock of you so don’t let them get you down.
