Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said that he’ll be deeply alarmed if an engineer getting paid $500,000 a year does not consume at $250,000 worth of AI tokens to get their job done.
we are about to see buggy ass chips from nvidia now.
Replace ALL CEOs with AI first
A few suggestions that would incentivise actual growth and improvement rather than market fraud and personal enrichment.
Cap CEO compensation to a reasonably “fair” multiple of their workforces average. Compensation type must match that average as well (cash/stock/scrip.) Bonuses follow the same rules.
Stock buybacks require the company to commit to both workforce and r&d budget increases of the same value before they can be done again.
Mass layoffs require issuance of new stock that match the % of the workforce cut.
Oh I’m sure, at least in some small measure, this was exactly the mindset that pushed this shit into every facet of existence. Some rich fucks realized genAI could do their dumb ass jobs better than them for a fraction of the cost, so they spent the last few years doing all they can to show how genAI can actually do the jobs of service workers and creative types, better.
As someone who pays $20/month for cursor for work and never go past my quotas to finish all my month’s tasks, AND who has transitioned to almost not coding manually at all and mostly just reviewing generated code, what the FUCK are y’all doing that would ever eat anywhere even close to half your damn salary??? How can you trust any of the output at that kind of volume???
Man, it’s gotten REALLY hard to gauge yourself as a developer nowadays. I have no idea if I’m falling behind or not, and I’m pretty sure more than half of y’all would already condemn me for going too far for using AI, while at least a few would laugh at how behind I am.
Regardless, fuck you Jensen. Fuck you and your crocodile leather jacket.
No no no no you fool. That’s a classic blunder. He’s indicating the ideal cost of using tokens and possibly foreshadowing where price increases are going.
He got paid $50 million last year, so should he be consuming $25 million in tokens?
Slop pusher really wants everyone to use the slop machine. More at 11.
If you’re paying me $500k, I’ll do whatever stupid bullshit you want me to do. Just keep the paychecks coming. I don’t care if you totally fuck up your stupid company, by then I’ll have a fat nest egg, and I’ll just walk away without looking back at the explosions.
Edit: Wait! You mean they pay them $500K, and then they expect them to kick back half of it to do their jobs? Well, you can just fuck off with that.
If a company wants me to use a “tool” to do my job, they have to pay for it.
So company trying to pay in company script again?
Can they still spend the other half of their salary at non company affiliated stores?
CEO says use my product it is great.
Atop fucking posting what dioshit CEOs say. You are stupidier for reading it.
Spend half your salary on my ass! Or else!
They don’t seem to be suggesting they use their own money. Just using their salary as a comparison. It’d be like if a trucking company related gas expenditures to employee salaries. If they had an employee that earned 80k but only spent $20 in gas, that would be odd. They seem to be suggesting that in order to prove their working efficiency, they should be spending a certain amount of company money on AI.
I don’t agree with the assessment, but I do think it should be clear that they are not expecting that money to come out of employee salaries.
Reminds me of Elon’s comment about programmers value being based on the number of lines of code they’d written.
who cares about readability, lets use if statements for everything to reach maximum value,
Should be clear? In this economy?!
I think you are correct but using $$ as a metric makes zero sense… is AI less “effective” to engineer chips (as per Jensen) if gas prices raise and therefore the cost of cooling down the data centers?
I think this shitty attempt to line up tokens with salary is based on their absolutely stupid idea to start paying and trading with tokens as if they were real money
This is an insane take. No paid internal engineer is blowing their own money on this kind of tooling. Nvidia pays for it.
The same expectations would not be true for employees for normal companies either, instead the goal would be to have 2 FTEs and 1FTE worth of token expenditure, instead of 4+ FTEs. Same cost, “more productivity” (at least that is the argument of the people making money from selling AI hardware.)
This is just self-serving messaging that he’s hoping will impact the AI spend and policy of other CEOs.
Maybe he believes it, maybe he doesn’t, but it’s 100% in his interest to make other decision makers believe that he believes it.
To be honest, I’d trust the paper and pencil work much more.
Luigi?
Why on earth would anyone ask Jensen Huang about whether he thinks people should use AI?
My company should be providing me the tools I need to get things done. If I’m making $500K, that means the company should be willing to pony up $250K in tokens, not me personally.
(Not to mention that I reject the entire premise)
I can stab techbro shillionaires like Huang with a pencil and write a ransom note with said pencil and paper. Can’t do that with AI slop “brokens” now can I?
