Kingdoms of Amalur was funded as a state tax write off and almost bankrupted Rhode Island, hands down one of the greatest games there has ever been.
As someone that played it that’s very generous.
That game is S++ tier, even if you’re judging it on combat and class mechanics alone. It is a perfect game. Better than Skyrim. Better than Fable. I will fight you.

Indie technology: Either Godot, some other smaller open source engine, or some heavily specialized open source solution that can only do a few kinds of games but has a small footprint.

This is news to me as well.
Flicking through my Steam now, may I suggest Satisfactory (AAA-style first person Unreal Engine automation game, devs seem cool, probably the highest profile game after Factorio), Timberborn (beaverpunk, nature themed, less automation heavy), Dyson Sphere Program (Chinese-developed space-themed interplanetary automation), Shapez (minimal 2D automation game, there’s a less minimal sequel), Mindustry (haven’t played it, but seems to be another Factorio-lite).
Distant honorable mention to WRSR, a Soviet themed city building game with so many production chains and interlocking systems that I’d consider it more of an automation game than a city builder. Although it won’t appeal to you if you aren’t into city builders. And I think it especially won’t appeal to you if you’re from a country/family that had an unpleasant Soviet era.
Factorio was inspired by a number of minecraft factory/automation mods, so that’s another option as well! Probably old tekkit
Oh yeah. I’ve poured months of my life into Nomifactory (formerly Omnifactory) and will one day play the even longer Nomifactory CE as a finale. This might be the first time I forget to mention modded MC in this context.
When I played it the first time in 2019 there were a few modded mods to make some tasks easier on setup and on the CPU, since the original mods weren’t made with the sheer volume of automation needed in the pack.
When I replayed it again five years later, there were even more helper mods. Sure setting things up the harder old way was more satisfying the first time, but when you have to build the same setup another eighty times? Give me the streamlined stuff please. It was much less tedious, although I was still vaguely familiar with all the mechanics, which also helped a lot. So did my CPU being like 10 generations newer.
That said, if we’re talking about avoiding shithead devs, Microsoft has finally been included in mainstream boycott discourse, and Notch has always been a bit off. Although I’d assume most people into this stuff must have already gotten the game before. It’s not like I’ve given them any money for it over the past decade+.

Okay I gotta ask since I’ve seen it a bunch recently but when did transgender as a noun become accepted. It’s an adjective. I’ve seen trans people be called a Trans multiple times recently and it never got challenged but it always feels icky to me. I’m a transgender woman or a trans woman for short. If you want to shorten it further you may call me a woman but not a trans
I think the usage there isn’t meant to be correct, but incorrect as a joke. It’s like how I’ve seen people call themselves a tran. (Trans is obviously plural.)

If the fucker thinks that Metroid and Zelda are “baby games” you already can tell he’s not the smartest of the bunch. On the other side I never did called someone just “trans” but is good to know that it does matter.
I try to avoid using nouns in general for folks (because it’s hard to tell through online/voice calls and I end up forgetting due to bad brain), so I end up just using they/them, you, or something more abstract (gamers, pals, friendos) to refer to people.
While I haven’t engaged in using trans as a noun, I’d imagine others would for simplicity’s sake, at least in their mind.
What about trans men and trans non-binary people?

Same as with trans women the trans is still an adjective, i don’t know why that would change. If you want to talk about multiple categories of trans people, you can just use trans people or something similar. If you’re talking about my example at the end there it’s because i literally am a trans woman and was talking about myself.
Future Prospects:

- Makes 2 more great releases, then see previous
- Makes 5 formulaic releases with a team size that halves each iteration, or engages actively in 1-year contracts or hire-and-dump schemes
Sometimes indies do very well, after which they don’t release anything new for at least 5 years.
Like the Balatro guy, out there living the dream. Made one great game and got filthy rich and I couldn’t be happier for him.
