Thats the simple problem. Most of the countries which have what we need are run by assholes.

I wonder why that is so? Are we the baddies? (Obvious meme reference /s)

Well we should just stop using gas anyway, no? Why are we continuing with this insanity when the world is literally burning?

Even if you generate all your electricity from renewables, you still need natural gas for non-electricity uses like fertilizer or chemical manufacturing.

Maybe because a high amount of people are heating their flats using gas and it is not possible to change that short term.

Sure, but it is not like this situation/discussion is new or surprising. You sleep in the bed you make yourself.

Because there is no alternative (except freezing). Renewables wont do much in cold, windless winter nights.

Well, except that there are plenty of sources of renewable energy that neither depend on wind or the sun. And a well isolated home needs only minimal heating anyways.

And which exactly provide enough energy to power an entire country?

Its a mix from various sources and energy saving efforts. Its not like natural gas is providing the entire energy needs of Europe either.

Sure, but creating the infrastructure to tap into these energy sources takes a long term commitment, and a lot of energy. Europe is clearly isn’t capable of committing to such a project, and now it lacks the energy needed to do so.
