Both my coworker and I have already received our tips with our paychecks, and we obviously have to pay income tax on them. Returning the money to her at this point is literally impossible since we don’t actually have all the money.

Fucking up and making it other peoples problem is peak Christianity.

Her bill came to $40, to which she added a $300 tip and wrote on the receipt “in case you don’t rise on the 8th.”

    What a condescending cunt.

Honestly, if they are both that dense to believe that a well-known and well established astronomical phenomena is heralding the end of the world as it hasn’t for millennia of this happening and that insulting that you would only give a major tip when you believed that the recipient wouldn’t be able to enjoy it then they most assuredly deserved the loss.

And frequent. Supposedly every 18 months or so, there’s an eclipse visible from somewhere.

It looks like there won’t be another so convenient to me any time this century, although in 21 years maybe I’ll be retired in Florida to see that one

What she doesn’t know is that 100% of the good christians were raptured on eclipse day.

    Whoopsie.

I have fantasized for a while now (over a decade) about fabricating a rapture, reporting and evidence enough to convince those who believe in raptures.

Why? I suspect any Christian expecting to be raptured would have their attitude improved by facing the notion they don’t actually qualify for God’s elite club and eventually coming to terms with this reality.

Either they’d strive to do better, or they’d join the rest of us renegades.

Of course, for me, my journey towards naturalism was most terrifying coming to terms not just with mortality but with the insignificance of my species (which is already careening towards our great filter). These are the revelations that religions try to allow their followers to avoid. Tens of thousands of sects all claiming to be God’s true chosen.

Sometimes I really wonder about the reasoning behind a downvote. Sucks that I’ll never know.

Someone regularly goes through my post history and downvotes every comment. What does it accomplish? I have no idea.

Yeah the obvious “going down the list” downvotes are funny to me. Especially if the comment is less than a couple minutes old. Good times

I’m sure it’s the Anti Squid Society - flying squids are an abomination and that A.S.S. wants to squash them

I don’t know how you browse Lemmy, but on the default view in Firefox, downvotes are red and upvotes are blue, so it’s hard to make that mistake.

Every once in a while I’ll accidentally bump an upvote or downvote as I’m scrolling. I think I usually catch it but I’m assuming that I’ve left downvotes on plenty of entirely normal comments when I don’tcatch it. Whenever I get a random downvote I just assume it’s from the same thing.

If you maintain an account on an instance that does not hide the identities behind votes, like Kbin, it’s a simple thing to know. I don’t usually look, but occasionally I’m curious.

EDITED TO ADD: I just looked at Kbin, they do not appear to be showing downvotes anymore (every post and comment on my page has a downvote total of zero) so scratch that, lol

But even if I knew who did it, I wouldn’t know why they did it, and it wouldn’t be worth asking them.
