At this point it’s obvious what the ploy is by the courts. Delay it till the elections. If he’s elected they’re going to rule that he’s immune, if he’s not elected they’re gonna leave him out in the cold and let all the trials hit him at once. They’re just buying as much time as possible until that date.

People need to face the facts that this isn’t going to be a normal election because:
- Much of the Republican Party believes that the prior election was illegitimate
- Project 2025 exists and was drawn up by people close to Trump
- The violence at the capitol was strategically denied and much propaganda has been produced about it, leading many to believe that republicans did not orchestrate it.
- Many of those allied with the Jan 6th takeover are, regrettably still in power. Nothing is stopping them from trying it again.
- Trump has changed tone entirely and now commonly alludes to violence toward his enemies, jailing his political opponents, and has many believing that the justice system is completely failed.
- Minorities are being targeted on a grand scale and xenophobia means that republicans can do anything as long as they attack the border.
- The voices of women and young voters are getting extremely loud and patriarchy on the right cannot tolerate it.
Now realize that the dots between these issues have yet to be connected for republicans in the nation. Why vote if it’s all rigged? Why hold elections at all? Why not be violent if Jan 6 was a hoax? Why not aim violence squarely at trumps enemies if elected? Why not turn against minorities and women who perpetuate ideas you hate? It’s like kindling and one false flag sets it all off.

It’s called denial. Until 2016 i honestly felt the slow walk towards a dictatorship but it felt like a long ways away. This country is a tin pots wet dream. Like getting the keys to Dad’s car and oh shit . 358 and a kilo of Peruvian?
Until 2016. Then it felt like the floor tipped and the sliding hasn’t stopped yet. It’s terrifying. People are dying literally everywhere and the only concern is who is to blame. We must establish blame before the tragedy ends and i feel that the uncertainty that usa presents in it’s current state is very much to blame (i stress that’s how i feel, be it rational or irrational) and like wtf. People are fuckin dying but the blame must come first.
So here we are, shit sandwich and a turd burger. So yeah most people don’t see it because it’s terrifying and probably been pushed away as unimaginable. We’re very possibly going to see more violence and death because someone’s team wants to break all the toys.
This is gonna get posted on boomer social media with a sad Joe Biden face photoshopped over the top panel, and conservative blogs will eat it up and post it all over the place because they have no shame and it “owns the libs”
Damn if only Biden could do something like appointing new Justices or something
He could have appointed a better AG
No president should have the power to appoint judges. One of their main purposes is to controll if what the government does is complient with the law and how can it do that if the president can just appoint whoever they like.
No court should have the power to decide who’s president, but it’s 24 years later and here we are.
Goddamn do I feel this in my bones. One fucking election 24 years ago seems more and more significant as time goes on. Can you imagine if Bush/Cheney hadn’t been in the White House? Honestly, this is mostly Bill Clinton’s fault. He poisoned the well against any democratic candidate after the Monica Lewinsky affair. Gore would have had a cakewalk in 2000 otherwise.
The problems didn’t start with Bill, he was just a more noticeable casualty of larger trends.
Eh, Monica Lewinsky was like 22 years old when Bill Clinton was 49 and he started having an affair with her. He was sort of the predator in that relationship. I wouldn’t describe him as a casualty of anything other than his own predilections.
You mistake me. I’m only saying that it hasn’t contributed to our current predicament much, despite how it affected politics at the time
Oh, okay, well I’m not sure to what extent I really agree with that, but then again I’m kinda arguing from the perspective of a domino effect, like the whole “for want of a nail the shoe was lost” sorta deal.
Where’s Aileen Cannon?
Didn’t the dems start the trial very late themselves?
DoJ drug their feet so long
