  • I think the point of the draft “thought experiment” they were proposing was to stop people from starting these wars and conflicts if they had a personal stake in it.

There’s this NPR episode I heard where they said that the codes to the nuke should be in someone’s heart and that person carries a suitcase with a knife. To get the nuke, the president should plunge the knife into that man to do it. It’s absolutely horrific and bloody but to kill many from afar you should at least be able to do one up close. I think that the person that recommended it said he’d be the first volunteer and would love that job. He’d make best friends with the president and get to know their kids, just to make the decision absolutely impossible.

I’d like to think that’s what they were getting at? Your response to the thought experiment seemed confusing at first but I think what you’re getting is that they’d just send the kids to safe areas of the war, rather than anything real anyways, right? which makes sense … politicians would weasel to get their own skin out. I’m not 100% sure why that’d lead to a draft? Do you mean in retribution they’d take it out on others and protect their own?

    Anywho, from another Canadian. ✌️

you’re sure you couldn’t have done more good by staying home or voting NDP or green or whatever and making the liberals bite their nails a little harder?

I voted Carney. I’m not the person you’re replying to, but I think standing clearly against the principles of the Conservatives was what was most important. I think that’s the clearest message and an important one to send at the time.

  • I hate to break it to you… but your friend is a transphobe

You think so? I usually try to avoid using those terms for more overt displays?

I won’t deny that the cognitive dissonance is jarring though. I think there’s a few schools of thought here. I can either cut them out of my life or I can slow burn them over time. I’ve known this guy for a long time and he respect me to a degree … so I’d rather be that friend that pulls him back to what I see as normal.

  • I had a friend that was SO concerned about who was using what bathroom. He’s not a transphobe and has a transgender friend.

He just got really worked up about it and kept questioning me about it. Which makes me always respond with: “I’m a progressive”. He was like, “why do I get hate if I just say there’s two genders”, I said “it’s 'cause you’re wrong, ignoring the definition of gender, you know there are intersex people right?” … and we get stuck into this loop where he doesn’t really understand what I’m saying and gets into why he deserves any hate for saying there’s only two genders. No talk about sex vs gender or anything else makes any movement forward. Even if you think there’s only two genders, I don’t know why it’s such a big deal to them.

I love that these podcast chuds are like, I can’t believe he lied!

He lies more than any president ever but ignoring that, everyone calls politicians liars … why they think he’s an exception bewilders me.
