you’re sure you couldn’t have done more good by staying home or voting NDP or green or whatever and making the liberals bite their nails a little harder?
I voted Carney. I’m not the person you’re replying to, but I think standing clearly against the principles of the Conservatives was what was most important. I think that’s the clearest message and an important one to send at the time.
Thank you!
It’s one thing to be angry at what’s happening but the mood they put in is so bleak (intentionally or not) and they just want everyone to not do anything about it.
I hate to break it to you… but your friend is a transphobe
You think so? I usually try to avoid using those terms for more overt displays?
I won’t deny that the cognitive dissonance is jarring though. I think there’s a few schools of thought here. I can either cut them out of my life or I can slow burn them over time. I’ve known this guy for a long time and he respect me to a degree … so I’d rather be that friend that pulls him back to what I see as normal.

These people need to be put underneath the school.
Yes, I sound “barbaric” and we’re a society of laws and all that, but it seems we’re obviously not. This information was just sat on, fucking disgusting people.
I had a friend that was SO concerned about who was using what bathroom. He’s not a transphobe and has a transgender friend.
He just got really worked up about it and kept questioning me about it. Which makes me always respond with: “I’m a progressive”. He was like, “why do I get hate if I just say there’s two genders”, I said “it’s 'cause you’re wrong, ignoring the definition of gender, you know there are intersex people right?” … and we get stuck into this loop where he doesn’t really understand what I’m saying and gets into why he deserves any hate for saying there’s only two genders. No talk about sex vs gender or anything else makes any movement forward. Even if you think there’s only two genders, I don’t know why it’s such a big deal to them.

Reminded me of this:

I love that these podcast chuds are like, I can’t believe he lied!
He lies more than any president ever but ignoring that, everyone calls politicians liars … why they think he’s an exception bewilders me.

When those Chinese EVs arriving again?
Don’t you mean X’s and O’s? or Noughts and Crosses?
I’m just being an idiot … I heard a RadioLab podcast where this guy went to a different country to ask about them about tic-tac-toe and was surprised it had a different name somehow.
what’s stopping you? partner needs a full box spring?
damn, and I thought I was original …
I was even wondering if 2025 counts as one word for a while

It “can” be … it’s just what people are more familiar with sometimes and new terms that seem native like: “control panel” “command prompt” “regedit” can be strange to people that haven’t. It’s not that they can’t learn it, it’s just a bit of an uphill battle.
Hell, Bazzite confused me for a bit because I didn’t know wtf an immutable distro was.

I actually never read any of the books and I picked up The Hobbit years after seeing the movie. There were a lot of things that I thought was added that’s actually in the book.
I watched all three … I think I liked the first? I’ve never watched any of them again though. Like many others, I’ve seen the original LOTR trilogy many times over.
to show those people with difficulties standing who the real bosses are

I think the tariffs are apart of the “threat” … he said he would remove them if we "joined. The thing with Trump is he says that he doesn’t “need” anything about Canada and then talk about all the freshwater we have. So it’s a lot of “dog whistling” mixed in with actions like the tariffs whenever we do things like make deals with China.

I’ve been next to lads in the stalls where they’re dropping bombs and on the phone on the same time. No shame. Barely stopped to grunt. Truly Gods among men.
I think the point of the draft “thought experiment” they were proposing was to stop people from starting these wars and conflicts if they had a personal stake in it.
There’s this NPR episode I heard where they said that the codes to the nuke should be in someone’s heart and that person carries a suitcase with a knife. To get the nuke, the president should plunge the knife into that man to do it. It’s absolutely horrific and bloody but to kill many from afar you should at least be able to do one up close. I think that the person that recommended it said he’d be the first volunteer and would love that job. He’d make best friends with the president and get to know their kids, just to make the decision absolutely impossible.
I’d like to think that’s what they were getting at? Your response to the thought experiment seemed confusing at first but I think what you’re getting is that they’d just send the kids to safe areas of the war, rather than anything real anyways, right? which makes sense … politicians would weasel to get their own skin out. I’m not 100% sure why that’d lead to a draft? Do you mean in retribution they’d take it out on others and protect their own?
Anywho, from another Canadian. ✌️
