Surprise is qualitative. I was ready for this (left the country 3 years ago, still voted from abroad) but I was fully ready to have been wrong all this time. I’m not used to being this prescient, and it doesn’t bode well for the rest of what I think I need to be ready for.

It just seems like unnecessary noise in an already noisy world.

The context only increases the granularity of my distaste. We live in a society of conspiracism and forgetful unthinking chaos. I don’t want to read entrails for clues about the future, I want to wait patiently for a good game and not become schizophrenic trying to connect meaningless dots.

I have a hard time accepting the way social media works. The whole chain of logic you just spelled out makes me want to vomit. I want to be talked to like I’m a person, and I know it’s just going to keep happening less and less and one day it’s going to do my head in.

Never, under any circumstances, use the phrase “you people” unless you’re in the mood for everyone in the universe to act like you just lost the argument.

Russia has consistently talked about launching nukes in response to various red lines, and their sabre rattling has been effective in moderating everyone’s tone even when it was blatant lies.

I don’t take seriously the idea of either side actually using nukes, and I never suggested it. The point I was making was about the damage it does to disarmament efforts when, say, a smaller nation gives up its nukes in exchange for assurances and is then invaded by one of the very signatories of those assurances.
