‘There was a whole slew of anti-nausea medications that I would have to take … a lot of these medications were not covered under OHIP.’
Enshittification seems to be synonymous with US’ification
Enshitification doesn’t just mean “things getting worse”. It applies specifically to online platforms that have been sabotaged by VCs.
While online platform was the start it also now applies to services degrading. Much like how our local purolator no longer actually delivers packages to the door. they now call saying they need address confirmation (even though it is correct), then put package delayed do to address request in their tracking, or leave a door tag even though I’m home. And when you check their tracking system it was just shuffled around inside their facility and not actually on the truck, until you get so mad you go and pick it up. Trying to complain is a circle of nonsense since you need a tracking number and LOST package to make a complaint. Trying to explain the logistical problem to an employee that doesn’t give a shit and has no button to click in their complaint system for it. That is enshitification of a service.
You’re describing the purolator experience I’m familiar with from my time in non-metro BC. Even Victoria was horrible for them.
Purolator, I’ll submit, has never been good and maybe should stop getting any money.
No it means what we say it means when we use it. We made it up, not some one else.
I had a ranty comment 2 years ago about the “enshittification of all things”. It’s just that it got massive this year because, well… (gestures vaguely at everything)
What does this have to do with the US? Is the implication that policy makers in Canada are shifting towards US-like policies?
Yes.
TFW when your country can’t even act as a bad example others can learn from.

Sorry about your cancer situation. Mine was surgery, chemo and radiation for 7 weeks. I was self employeed so still worked PT from home, because bills don’t stop even f you are fatigued. I didn’t qualify for that cancer fund relief because of earning too much the previous year. That system makes no sense, you need a previous tax year of failure before they help out. As for disability, my wife has that and you are right it is not good. she can work only 4 hours a week or they stop her disability.

Canadians are going into debt because of everything.
I just went through this with my partner in Ontario, there were nausea meds that weren’t covered, but 95% of the cost was. It’s not acceptable that those drugs aren’t covered, also, it’s just worth noting that the context here isn’t about going bankrupt from paying for (the bulk) of the cancer treatment as much as how disruptive cancer is to daily life for years, which is also a huge problem.
The image and the headline really conflict with each other. 🤔
