The system is good and Cinnamon is great (I used Mint for a lot of years), but it is hardly the best for me.
The whole concept of “best distro” is misleading and frankly pointless. There’s no single best distro. Each distro presents a different flavour of Linux, and some people like some flavours better than others.
I used to think Mint was a really good distro for me, but I like tinkering a lot and the Arch family has proven much more enjoyable. I still think Ubuntu, Mint, Pop, Fedora, Solus, etc are good distros, just not as good as Arch (and derivatives), for the type of user I am. For example, I put Mint with Cinnamon on my parents’ laptop and they love it; they enjoy the simple app store flow (akin to their phones) and great desktop. Cool!
In my opinion, we should really stop making these sort of claims in articles, videos and the likes. They achieve nothing besides possibly dividing the community more.
That was one of the biggest mistakes I made when I first started my blog. I used, “Best distro”, " Best text editor", “Best video player”. Ive learned that it is a bit misleading and it is better to phrase it better. I would have no problem if the title was akin to something like, " Why you should consider using Linux Mint".
Yea, that would be a much better title.
On a guide I have, I just put I like arch linux, and ppl still pushed back that I’m not recommending others. Can’t make everyone happy.
True. Some people are crazy lol. I’ve had people get legitimately mad at me for saying that I like Gnome and would recommend it to some people.
you like it but
do you use it?
I use Arch, btw.
I would deffinatly not say the “best”. I love the cinnamon desktop and lack of snaps, but it has some problems.
I appreciate the great work the Cinnamon team does for their desktop. They really do an excellent job. Its just not for me.
You should have at least posted it on /c/linuxmint.
As a linux mint lover myself, let me say that linux mint is not the ‘best’ linux distro. Pop!_OS holds that spot on the podium imo and it works with new hardware thanks to ubuntu21.04 base.
