They don’t provide an online service as that. Seems more an excuse to prevent people from discussing.
Edited:
The App we provide is not intended for individuals below the age of 13. If you are under 13 years old, please do not use the App.
Like a service, wtf.
I think they don’t know this app is used in schools in Spain and early high school too.
At this point it stopped being free software
Yes, to be exact, is exactly that and I didn’t even think in that part more then deleting the right directly.
I think this could be taken legally because it is agaisnt the license.
I am most curious about how can a music editing software program be classified as PG-13.
Data of children under 13 are protected under US law
I tried to rethink this point really hard. Audacity is an offline music editing software with no NSFW material, and there was supposed to exist no telemetry in there.
Why is it a PG-13 software? Why is this company, albeit as a side consequence, hellbent on not letting children (or basically anyone) letting use it freely for their hobbies?
Legal requirement. Makes ne sad because many schooling IT staff don’t have the time or insight to seek out alternatives or audacity forks.
I was trying to be partially ironic putting that as example.
Ahhhh I thought this was over.
Muse Score Group had the audacity to do this.
Audacity puns are the only good thing to ever come out of this acquisition
Hopefully the user’s voices will be audible.
Everywhere I see, there is sound criticism indeed.
Wikipedia page got updated : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audacity_(audio_editor) In July 2021, Audacity updated its privacy policy to include a clause that allowed Muse Group to collect “data necessary for law enforcement, litigation and authorities’ requests”.[14] The change was met with a great deal of controversy.[15][16]
/me thinking “In July 2022 Muse Group filed for bankruptcy” ?
There is a fork promoted by a group dedicated to Free Software https://github.com/SartoxOnlyGNU/audacium
I like it is different to the forks hosted in personal repositories and would point to it as the way to go if nothing replaced it. However, I don’t like that finish being hosted in GitHub.
Taken a movement like this, would be great if was done in a complete way also moving the project away of GitHub.

Seems that the main dev is a bit weird closing issues without providing feedback.
@[email protected] did you see https://github.com/audacity/audacity/issues/1213 ?
Seems that started yesterday and is directly related to this.
There is going to be a lot of noise over it. Welcome to the new Fediverse/FOSSverse drama :p
Poor Audacity.
The only thing I can suggest is accessing to their forum (https://forum.audacityteam.org) to ask about this and/or sending email messages to [email protected].
There is a discussion now at https://github.com/audacity/audacity/discussions/1225
They simply rushed in and lost all goodwill. Corporates will never understand FOSS culture.
They literally had the example of KDE recently of how to do it the right way, but I guess whoever is in charge of this is not really into FOSS projects.
Muse ruined it.
