So presumably Yoshi is going to be a big part of this one then? Considering that Super Mario World is his first appearance in the series. I wonder if it’ll be a speaking role or if he’s just going to say his name and make noises
Yoshi only says their name.
Yoshi reproduce with eggs.
Yoshi have different stages of growth.
Yoshi can be fed to increase their power.
Yoshi have specific attacks.
Yoshi are Pokemon.
No. Pokemon are funny shaped yoshis.
He was teased in the post-credits scene in the first movie.
I had forgotten there was a post credits scene. That pretty much guarantees it then
I want to know if sacrificing Yoshi for an extra jump to save Mario will be part of the conflict leading into the movie’s climax.
I hope Yoshi is only going to make that orchestra hit from the old games!
He can say “BOW” when spitting things out too.
I always think of this extended BOW
There’s also his tongue eject sound. which I’m not even sure the Latin alphabet can spell. HUYIIIIP!
I mean, thats a direct result of Mario punching Yoshi in the back of the head. Thats just the sound of pain.
I can hear it without clicking: BOUAOUW
Who says you can’t hear a thumbnail?
The orchestra hit when you jump off, the BOW when spitting things out, and when he uses tongue, you gotta have the MLEM.
Jack Black’s next hit:
Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi Yoshi
Damn that Yoshi line goes hard
Makes sense. Could be fun if it integrates a lot of elements from the game. Not sure if I’ll watch the sequel though. First one was competently made, but pretty much the definition of empty, meaningless entertainment for me.
Today you learned that childrens entertainment is made for children.
Eh, there is a lot of children’s entertainment that I absolutely love and that doesn’t feel meaningless to me.
What are your favorite examples?
Citizen Kane
Ghibli movies like My Neighbor Totoro or Kiki’s Delivery Service. For western productions, the How to train your Dragon series, Avatar: the last Airbender and Hilda are some that come to mind.
Thank you!
Requiem for a dream
The Paddington movies (specifically 2) are some of the best movies ever made, and I’m a horror buff.
Marcel the Shell With Shoes On
Sonic the Hedgehog (3 in particular)
Coraline
Children deserve better than soulless slop.
Eh, I don’t think we should be so reductive of media that we intend to engage kids with, afterall, it has the opportunity to shape younger generations media literacy to some extent. With that, there’s a handful of movies I watched as a kid that I had gained an older appreciation for, as their messages and themes don’t lose meaning with age, and will continue to enjoy.
Just recently I rewatched The Lego Movie, not in doubt, but I was suprised how it holds up compared to some newer (and older) media, which I certainly don’t feel the need to watch/rewatch (sorry Mario you fall here). Made for kids shouldn’t equate to crass humor and meandering plot, but when it does, it may be just a bad movie.
When I was a young lad, I remember feeling somewhat guilty at first for falling asleep during Planes, but I had pieced it together, some movies suck. And I can’t lie, I enjoy the occasional rewatch of Megamind as another one that holds up well
Can’t wait to see Jack Black riding the clown copter.
Bowser being Robotnik before Robotnik was a thing.
Technically Sonic the Hedgehog was released before Super Mario World for regions outside of Japan.
All that matters is when the game was first released anywhere. SMW - 11/21/90 in Japan, Sonic - 6/21/91 in Europe (and boy, is it weird that Europe got it first!)
absolute cinema ✋️🤠✋️
