Those first impression were the only impressions. I can’t vote so I didnt go learn political system when I have school and work.

In highschool lgbtq+ people would assume I was brainwashed and start lecturing me on evils of Shariah as soon as they learned where I am from.That felt geniuenly bad. You can imagine how my friend group formed up over time.
My first actual positive interaction I can remember with the left was when I got curious about computers and started learning Linux.

Mate, I was an immigrant for over 20 years, having lived in 3 foreign countries during that time.
It is my impression that there are 2 kinds of people who emmigrate:
- People who are looking for something different - i.e. those who have wunderlust or simply want to experience something else than the culture they were born into.
- People who are looking for a better life - i.e. overwhelmingly economic emigrants, though some are also refugees.
The former are indeed open minded and tend to immerse themselves in the culture of the countries they move to mixing with all sorts of people.
The latter tend to stick around with people from their own country and often (when they’re a big enough group) form communities which are little copies of the homeland abroad. They’re there for the money, not for the experience of living in a different country with a different way of acting and seing things.
(IMHO refugees are a special bunch and I can’t really speak in a well informed way about their mindset - I expect the ones who are presecuted in their homeland have no love for the way of thinking of those who prosecute them, but beyond that I don’t really know as I haven’t met any that I knew was a refugee)
Whilst the former group are pretty much a self-selected bunch of people with a certain personality type heavy on openness, the latter are only self-selected for courage (modesty on the side, it takes bravery and in some cases desperation, to uprooot yourself) and carry with them the full range of views from their homeland, which does mean many of the will be whatever version of “conservative” they grew up with.
I can tell you that at least those emmigrants from my homeland (Portugal) who left in the 60s and 70s are in average more rightwing than those who stayed behind and, judging by their vote in their presidential elections (were Bolsonaro had a much higher percentage of the vote than in Brasil), so are Brasilian immigrants in Portugal.
Isn’t Modi basically already a fascist? I don’t know much about Indian politics other than Modi being known for being a shitty person.
Never presume people from an immigrant background aren’t raging conservatives (which at times is pretty much near-Fascist).
The strong-man simping, self-centred asshole type of personality exists everywhere, for both genders.
Back when I was living in Britain during the Leave Referendum and working for a Startup in London, the only guy in the whole office who was pro-Leave was an Indian guy and judging by something his young son let slip before his father shut him up the guy was an Indian Nationalist (plus his father was a patent in the military), and people who see themselves as nationalist are usually Fascist or near-Fascist in my experience (certainly they’re “conservative”).
You’ll see similar thing in people from South America - they come in all sorts and that means some grew up in highly conservative environments and yearn for rightwing autoritarianism (just look at the love for Bolsonaro in Brasil).
Both “positive” presumptions about people from their ethnicity and origin (Israelis being a puignant example) and negative ones are Prejudice and hence judging others differently and acting towards them differently based on ethnicity is Discrimination and even Racism, even if a lot of people enacting the “benevolent” prejudice don’t see themselves as Prejudiced, Discriminatory and Racist.
Safest to just go around with the assumption that “We’re all the same and come in all kinds, good and bad”.

As a Canadian. I have no issues with immigrants. I DO have an issue with immigrants bringing their political issues to Canada. We have enough of our own issues—leave your political issues behind you, please. We have welcomed you into our country. DO NOT start flying your political flags here. I’m assuming you left your country to start a new beginning? Then stop bringing your old country politics to Canada. You’re not Canadian if you’re displaying another country’s flag.
