the “excuse” is that AI doesn’t have an upfront cost (or at least not as expensive) or waiting period.

with a human you have to pay a lot and wait for them to finish and you might not even like the finished result, but with AI, it can shit out 20 different versions of what you want and you can pick and choose.

for the average person that’s all they care about, they don’t give a fuck that it actually cost a fuckton of energy, or that it had to steal thousands of hours of real human work and effort in seconds to “magically” make their slop appear.

It’s almost like AI art generators do nothing different than a human does.

Ah yes, because when humans do art we never add little touches that make it our own even if we are closely following the source material while AI only closely follows its data

Take for example this redraw of this meme:

      Source

      Vs the original:

      Source

While they appear similar you can clearly see where they differ, with the end result being much better vs if they had copied the original more faithfully. Those changes were all intentionally done, based on the artists experiences biases and even mood. When AI makes changes it does not have the same intentions because it does not have artistic intent.

Art is a foundational way of human communication. AI slop is not that, as it mimics art while losing out on all but the most superficial of its communication.
