Huh, really interesting that I haven’t heard of any of the ideas the workers have brought forward to make Canada Post a better service. The elderly check-in service would definitely get a lot of use, and post offices offering financial services or other government/community services as well as mail is also a neat idea. Canada post delivering internet to rural communities is also cool.
I’m disappointed that even CBC isn’t running stories about these ideas and instead only quoting the professor of economics from a conservative think tank saying privatization of public services is always good.
CBC has already been directly threatened by the conservatives, they know that if they don’t start reporting right narratives they are gone next year.
I brought up a few of the points raised in this video when the mentioned article was posted on Lemmy a week ago.
Why is the CBC pushing billionaire talking points? It’s honestly shameful and incredibly lacking in self-awareness.

I mean, I it’s probably more mundane than you’d imagine. If I had to speculate, the author, Mr. Gollom, probably just got a free trip and fancy meal curtesy of the Frasier institute, or maybe he owed someone a favour.
Either way, it’s not a good look for the CBC to be so blasé writing about privatising other crown corporations.

Canadaland had an interesting take on it. Apparently the union PR wasn’t saying anything interesting or providing decent background. Since there are virtually no labour reporters anymore, the coverage is by people who don’t know the issues or context, who used the better PR from the corporation (I’m extrapolating this bit).
