Great link! The pictures are amazing. Especially the last 2 in color. Maximum Retrotechtaculary.
I see they painted some high viz caution stripes on the counterweights in the color photos. I thought they looked kinda dangerous for the people on the ground.
I imagine they move very slowly, and make a lot of noise. People probably weren’t expected to be in that space most of the time, too (I suppose).
That projecting part must be mechanism - counterweight wouldn’t need to stick out so much, just by using the appropriate weight.
Wow reminds me of Hermes from futurama
My first thought as well.
These people are going to send James Cole back in time to 1997 so he can stop the Army of the 12 Monkeys, aren’t they?
Yes.
I knew it was real!
Imagine accidentally leaving one of those things open and then ripping off the door by moving the desk lift thing
from the “some context” link posted above
The builder designed special electric-operated elevator desks which rise, fall, and move left or right at the push of a button, to stop just before the desired drawer. The drawers also open and close electronically.
GUARDS! Bring me the forms i need to fill out to have this man taken away!
Just watched that episode a couple of hours ago!
Looks like an archives building. It’s still done roughly the same except it’s shelves of boxes holding the records and you ride in a glorified electric forklift that can take you up and down with a small workspace attached. (Basically just a box with a shelf table so you can sign the records as they’re taken out/ returned.)
I NEED CONTEXT OMG

This is what happens when you cross a file clerk with a forklift. On earth, anyway. On Cybertron you get Orion Pax, while on Mars you get crazy cogboys.
you forgot VOGONS!
WTF?
