The entire party system need thrown out the window.

If one party is that bad (they 100% are) it means we really don’t have an option on what party we vote for.

And the “good” party has been running around for almost a decade telling people primaries are nonbinding so it doesn’t matter if they influence it. Because if they wanted to, they could just cancel everyone’s primary like they did to NH a few months ago and tell us who the nominee is.

And it would be 100% legal, there’s nothing anyone can do to stop them.

One party is obviously worse, but only having one option isn’t democracy.

And there is zero indication the “good” party will ever voluntarily give up their place as the only sane option.

The people have to do it without the help of either party. And if we keep blindly supporting one or the other party, shit will keep getting worse.

And there won’t be electoral reform as long as the president has a R or D by their name…

Both parties has too much to lose if there’s any other viable option.

Which is why I’m still pulling my hair out over no one else caring the two parties took over the debate system this cycle and have complete control over who is allowed to debate.

The parties keep grabbing more and more power, and telling members of both that they can’t ask any questions because this election is too important to have any standards.

They’re both going to keep saying it no matter what happens

Ranked choice voting has been gaining in popularity within the Democratic party. If a candidate supports it, vote for them!

How would they go about “giving up their place as the only sane option”? By acting crazy so there is no sane option? Or by asking the other party to stop being insane? They are constantly asking them to not be insane, constantly asking them to vote on bipartisan bills. It’s just the insane party doesn’t want to stop being insane. They’re crazy like that.

give up their place as the only sane option.

If you’re having difficulty, try removing some adjectives and see if it’s easier to understand:

give up their place as the only sane option.

If they’re the only option besides republicans, they have zero standards besides not being that bad

So they can run candidates more conservative than dem.viters want, and when voters ask for more instead of opening a dialogue, they can just scream and holler about how not voting D means you want R.

They’ll never give that up for a system where voters get a say.

        Makes sense now?

What upsets me the most about them is that there are people in their clutches who are being held in that nightmare by force, and in a lot of cases there’s almost nothing that can be done right now to get them out of there, especially for queer kids since all these loons live in “parents rights” states where the best interest of the child to not get sent to have the gay electrocuted out of them is overruled by “sincere religious belief”

Maybe it’s just that I’m biased since I’m queer too, but it infuriates me that there are people out there who’s lives are made miserable for being like me but having been born to people who should never have been allowed to be parents to begin with.

When people say parents’ rights all I see is the poor kid who’s living through being “kidnapped” to one of those “troubled youth” camps where they could in all likelihood drop fucking dead all because those parents with rights couldn’t handle that they had a crush on a kid of the same gender identity.

Parents’ have no rights, they have duties that they owe to their child for having brought them into this world, and the second you start ranting about your rights as a parent in opposition to their best interests and wants, you have failed so spectacularly that I genuinely believe that all your kids should be taken from you, even to the degree that they’re taken away from you in the hospital if you try to make more.

Bigots don’t get to be parents. Let them writhe in anger watching every last chance to keep the machine of hate spinning be taken right out of their hands, for the simple fact that even an orphanage is better upbringing than to be trusted to the care of these redcap animals.

      Fucking thank you! 👏

These are child abusers that society turns a damn blind eye to because they claim it’s it’s a part of their religion to be able to abuse their kids this way. Can I have a religion where I get to bullwhip a fundie if I run into one please? Just to restore balance?

I’m not sure that we have a system that can handle that amount of kids, so I’m not going to advocate for having them just taken away - too many chances for other abusers to take in a whole slew of kids and start abusing them too, but there needs to be some serious consequence for what these shitstains are putting these kids through.

It definitely needs to be called out as child abuse when overheard and not just sitting by and quietly letting it happen like too many people do.

And to be clear - I’m not saying all religious people do this. I’m sure there are some very fine religious people out there too. This is about vain people abusing their children for embarrassing them in the name of their religion.

Honestly the way I think we handle it is by retrofitting schools to accommodate free meals three meals a day, and also living quarters for, blind guess at how much would be enough, a quarter of the school’s student body?

It would involve a shitton of training of overnight staff and security, but I’m pretty confident that the threat alone that all the kids could wind up permanently out of their greasy hands and have an option for safety will go a long way to scare abusers straight.

If for nothing else, than because abusers tend to be too clever for their own good by half and are always doing what they think falls just shy of drawing legal attention, or making due with threats about what will happen to the kid if they rock the boat with nowhere to swim for safety.

I’m a firm believer that if the cast out child burns down the village to feel its warmth, then we ought to be handing out torches! Giving abused children the power to escape and also to break their siblings away from their parents instantly makes outsider kids everywhere a lot more able to take the respect as a human being they should have been getting from the start.

It’s bold. I like it. I would support a well thought out and designed plan of this nature 100 percent.

The snag I’m thinking of would be infants, going to the extent of making sure they can’t even keep the kids they try to replace the escapees is cathartic and thorough, but dang am I not even remotely sure what infrastructure would be needed to accommodate literal fresh out the womb infants becoming wards of the state. Even with the infrastructure, how do you raise kids from birth without the direct parental figures we usually just take as a given?

We gotta make sure they’re safe from their psycho fundie parents, but then we have the problem of probably having to reinvent child rearing entirely to make sure they can enter society as well adjusted as their peers who’s parents aren’t the scum of the earth.

Also, deprogramming, because odds are that those parents were poisoning the siblings against the child who pulls the rip chord, and associating that kid with “destroying the family” probably won’t help that poisoning, kids from intervened families who aren’t abuse victims themselves or who experienced abuse in ways that alienated them against the family whipping stool will need special attention to get them to unlearn the hate.

The simplest solution is to implement ranked-choice voting.

If people don’t need to vote for the lesser of two evils, they can start being represented.
