Yeah. People don’t quite get that, if TPC/Nintendo/GF/Creatures Inc.* had grounds to sue Palworld, they’d be the first ones to notice it and go for it.
*relevant due to allegations that the models were copied. …they weren’t.
“We have known about this game since it was announced but it wasn’t until 5000 armchair IP experts contacted us that our lawyers realized there was a case!”
Once I saw that they sued the Pokemon mod, I knew Palworld was safe
They didn’t sue any mod creator, they only had his trailers removed
Iirc, dude was charging money for the pokemon mod, of course they were gonna take it down
Any more info on the models? I’m seeing a lot of crazy claims and side by side comparisons and some are unconfortably close.
Someone from Xitter actually extracted the models from both Pokémon and Palworld, trying to “prove” that Palworld stole them. It had the opposite effect because the meshes don’t coincide at all, and it’s hard to claim that one is a result of the other being distorted.
This one is specially illustrative, between Lycanroc and Direhowl (that he calls “not Lycanroc”).
So, a wolf
I get that the smooth model style is the same as current pokemon designs, but its embarassing that so many people dont know the difference between shared styles and actual rip offs
But it has legs and eyes! It must be a ripoff! PokémonFreak, sue them! /s
Yup, both are wolves. And once you go past that, they don’t even look similar:
Are we such a snitch-based society that the pokepolice are having to tell people to cool it? That’s sad.
Brand new sentence.
From what I know, copyright law in Japan is rather strict, and the people there are generally in support of that. That’s why you won’t see any free manga repository sites hosted in Japan.
There’s a genuine belief in supporting companies through official purchases and preventing bootlegs, piracy and the like. And in Japan at least, there is a little bit more of a culture of mutual relationship between companies, workers, shareholders, customers and the people there, something long lost in North America.
For those, like me, that just wanted to see Pokemon Company’s statement
We have received many inquiries regarding another company’s game released in January 2024. We have not granted any permission for the use of Pokémon intellectual property or assets in that game. We intend to investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights related to the Pokémon. We will continue to cherish and nurture each and every Pokémon and its world, and work to bring the world together through Pokémon in the future.
The Pokémon Company
My translation for the first sentence is “We have received many opinions from our customers that the other company’s game released in January 2024 is similar to Pokemon, as well as inquiries if those were condoned by our company.”
I think that shows better TPC’s statement that they got plenty of comments from people and they are very well aware of the situation, and how it reads between the lines like “OK, OK, you can stop telling us about Palworld now,” as the article suggests.
There are 50 million pokemon clones that have mon in the name and have an electric mouse as their mascot. Not sure why everyone is freaking out about this one.
Because people are jealous this ones good
Because thise one became popular and seems (did not really saw anything besides a short talk by a youtube channel) somewhat original in an acceptable quality.
I don’t know of any other clones that reached that popularity.
(That said: Pokemon stopped for me at 3rd Gen, so I don’t know whats up with the IP anyway)
Basically, the people who are bitching about it to Nintendo don’t like that it’s more violent than Pokemon and got popular.
Pokemon fans are getting their kicks rubbing this in Nintendo and Gamefreaks faces.
Yeah they’re not snitching, they’re mocking them lol
I’m a pokemon fan. These new pokemon-like games seem really exciting, because they are taking the pokemon formula and innovating in a way that Game Freak won’t.
There are many complaints about the direction Pokémon is going. But people would just complain without directing to another game, besides their favorite classic pokemon game, or “ROM Hacks” without actually suggesting a particular hack.
As for myself, I was getting tired of the formula, especially as it shifted to more like a movie than a game with Sun/Moon. I withdrew from new Pokemon games until Legends Arceus and Scarlet/Violet, precisely because they add an advantage that the older games didn’t have. I had a lot of fun with Pokémon Scarlet, in large part due to the open world, breaking the straight line trend of the past four gens. It still suffers from too many cutscenes and slowness (not just frame drops). I still need to really pour time onto Legends Arceus. Cassette Beasts and Palworld are high on my wishlist now.
Honestly Pokefreaks are just such losers. They are desperate to make sure Big Corpo likes them and no bar of quality is too low for them to complain about.
