Trans shipments isn’t a great argument considering that most of South East Asia that is used/accused of being hubs have rail links to China.

Now, California Plans To Submerge A 9-Meter Diameter Sphere In The Ocean And Is Already Planning Versions Of 30 MetersEnglish2·6 hours agoAn easy manufacturing method would be to 3d print in plastic a double walled shell, with fill holes for concrete, and mounting chanels for motors. Plastic “lining” would provide salt water protection for the concrete.

Separate “vacuum pump” (instead of bidirectional) could also have several stages to improve efficiency.
humanspiralto science@lemmy.world•A German Experiment Proved That Simple Concrete Spheres Make Fantastic Batteries. Now, California Plans To Submerge A 9-Meter Diameter Sphere In The Ocean And Is Already Planning Versions Of 30 MetersEnglish2·7 hours agoCheap storage is more important than conversion ratio. Enough renewables leads to periods of negative prices without matching storage capacity. Storage can mean 1-2c/kwh charging costs, and even 50% efficiency makes discharged power 2-4c/kwh.
if 0.5m thick sphere, 30m diameter is 1413 m^3 of concrete. $300k to $400k in materials. Stores 150mwh power. About $2-$3/kwh

Actually, being very close to inhabited areas, but 0 impact, including nonsensical nuissance arguments, means short power transmission. It’s also very easy to pair with offshore wind.

The regulated utility model is such that the more utilities spend, the more profit they are allowed. Home solar prevents rate increases. The glorious datacenter future for utilities means discounts to AI datacenter users so that more rate increases from rationed remaining power to homes on restricted grid can be realized. Home solar also saves non solar customers money here.
Also the real reason for high CA rates is fire liability, and somehow all rate payers are being forced to subsidize forest dwellers.

humanspiralto World News@lemmy.ml•European leaders tell Putin to agree to unconditional ceasefire by Monday or face ‘massive’ sanctions6·1 day agoThere is a Russian counter ultimatum, that Trump has enthusiastically embraced as glorious peace breakthrough: Ukraine must go back to resume Istanbul peace talks this week.
humanspiralto World News@lemmy.ml•European leaders tell Putin to agree to unconditional ceasefire by Monday or face ‘massive’ sanctions31·1 day agoYou might start then, as a Pole i could tell you that normal people here don’t want to fight for the Ukraine either. Hell, even though intensive media brainwashing no one even seriously believe Russia will attack us (well, maybe except the usual tinfoil brains).
There is no Russian desire to rule over Poland or Kyiv/Lyiv because no one likes them there, and there is no benefit and only costs. Destroying those regions under the principle that the only good purpose for a warmongering crackhead is an irradiated exclusion zone, on the other hand…
The claim that Russia wants their territory is propaganda used to justify attacks/diminishment of Russia.

humanspiralto World News@lemmy.ml•European leaders tell Putin to agree to unconditional ceasefire by Monday or face ‘massive’ sanctions1011·1 day agoSimply not reality focused. Hatred of Russia programmed higher than European security concerns that could be addressed if “root causes of conflict” (US puppeted provocation of war by Ukraine and supporters) are a basis for peace instead of treating ceasefire as opportunity to rearm and train the newly conscripted.
Just as Russia demands demilitarization of Ukraine, Europe needs to demand demilitarization of Russia to avoid their own military buildup at cost of social programs. Europe continuing to demonize Russia, including blaming ceasefire breakdowns as one sided, is not going to get them treated as human. Not that anyone cares, but prolonging the war is more destruction of Ukraine and less favourable peace.
Even if destabilizing Russia is a unanimous/axiomatic goal, there is greater opportunity through giving it peace, and forcing it to transition to a peacetime economy, instead of the massive success/growth it has generated, including exceptional wage growth, during the war.
Your misery cannot possibly be the result a structurally oppressive society, look at how well I’m doing. Now go kick your mom in the vagina and suck dick for therapy fares, and come back next week.
