I’m increasingly convinced that the US will never escape this pit of anti-intellectualism they’ve dug.
I don’t think they ever will, at least not as the US exists today. I can see a possible future in which the US fractures and Balkanises and then, the better off of those future-countries would maybe see a rejection of traditional US beliefs, values, and ways of thinking.
But I can’t see that happening in the US today because keeping the people ignorant, gullible, and under a broken electoral system is highly beneficial to the ruling elite.
It’s almost like Americans pride themselves in their stupidity.
Nothing short of the spectrum of corporatocracy (at best) to executive authoritarianism will do.
Not if Americans refuse to cast off the chains of their masters. Blissfully walking into slavery?
Just look at these radical socialist credentials (from Wikipedia):
Carney was born in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard University in 1987, then studied at the University of Oxford, where he earned a master’s degree in 1993 and a doctorate in 1995. He held various roles at Goldman Sachs before joining the Bank of Canada as a deputy governor in 2003. In 2004, he was named as senior associate deputy minister for the Department of Finance Canada. Carney served as the eighth governor of the Bank of Canada from 2008 to 2013 and was responsible for Canadian monetary policy during the 2008 financial crisis. While still governor of the Bank of Canada, he was appointed chair of the Financial Stability Board, a position he held for two terms from from 2011 to 2018. Following his term as governor of the Bank of Canada, he served as the 120th governor of the Bank of England from 2013 to 2020, where he led the British central bank’s response to Brexit and the early phase of the COVID-19 pandemic.
After leaving central banking, Carney served as chair and head of impact investing at Brookfield Asset Management and as chair of the board of directors for Bloomberg L.P. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres appointed Carney as his Special Envoy on Climate Action and Finance on December 1, 2019. Carney also worked as one of many informal advisors to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during the COVID-19 pandemic and was made chair of the Liberal Party’s economic growth taskforce in September 2024.
Nothing says socialism like a lifetime spent in banking and asset management. But for Lutnick and the rest of the current US regime, radical woke gender ideological socialism means anything that isn’t Nazism and white supremacist eugenics.
Nothing says socialism like a lifetime spent in banking and asset management.
And his nominations to the banks of Canada and England were by the radical socialists Stephen Harper and David Cameron, respectively.
The disrespect is extreme. They would keep their whore mouths shut if genuinely socialist countries visited. Norway visited last month to celebration of Trump power. Administration keeps begging China needs to make a deal. Obviously, Israel’s socialism is funded by US tax payers, and Netanyahu gets invited to warmonger genocide at congress with 50 standing ovations.
Understand that the entire US political establishment is supportive of this disrespect for not overruling “fake national emergency”. Canada needs to make a stronger moratorium on US weapons and dump its existing F35s on someone else. Some escalation is appropriate and necessary.
You don’t know what socialism is.
On a spectrum, Norway and Israel have higher social spending than Canada does, with better quality of life for those not apartheided.
Social programs are not socialism.
Socialism: when workers control the means of production.
Means of production: anything that is used to create something by a worker.
Social programs: state run programs that benefit some or all of society. e.g. welfare or employment insurance.
So many things that people use and access are owned by the state in places like Norway. One example, hospitals. This is the socialism Americans rail against. You are putting socialism with communism, which they are not, which wants people to collectively own things like the means of production. You have confused yourself amidst all the propaganda.
Being owned by the state also doesn’t make for socialism. The government in the US owns many things, and they are the furthest from socialism that you can get.
State capitalism is still capitalism.
Maybe look up the definition of socialism and stop making things up.
I’m not the one confusing social programs with socialism. Marx did not advocate for healthcare for all he advocated for workers controlling the means of production. Get a dictionary and use it.
