The New York Republican congressman, fabulist and criminal defendant George Santos said he would not seek re-election next year, after the US House ethics committee issued a report detailing “grave and pervasive campaign finance violations and fraudulent activity” and recommended action against him.

“I will NOT be seeking re-election for a second term in 2024 as my family deserves better than to be under the gun from the press all the time,” Santos said, calling the report “biased” and “a disgusting politicised smear”.

But after the report detailed his conduct, moves to introduce a new expulsion resolution began.

“Representative Santos sought to fraudulently exploit every aspect of his House candidacy for his own personal financial profit,” the committee said.

What needs to be studied is why people continue to vote for pathological liars even when their lies are totally obvious and directly related to their political agenda.

“as my family deserves better than to be under the gun from the press all the time”

Bo-ho. If you had not done what you had, press would not care to investigate. But in typical Republican asshole manner, he pushes his family in front of him as the “victims”.

This is George Santos we’re talking about. I’ll believe this once the election is over and he hasn’t been elected as a write-in or some bullshit like that.

He’ll probably find a way to get himself appointed to something anyway.

How dare you criticize the son of the late Queen and grandson of Abraham Lincoln. You show some damn respect for his bravery in World War I and his Intergalactic Medal of Honor.

There won’t be enough republicans who are willing to expel a fellow republican. The margin on their majority is very thin.

Hell, in the last vote to sanction him, more Democrats than Republicans voted against the sanctions. I don’t even know what the fuck that was all about.

I think the idea was “he’s innocent until proven guilty” and removing him would start a bad precedent of ejecting people for illegitimate reasons. But now there’s an ethics report from a bipartisan committee saying he’s a bag of shit so they can say they’ve done their due diligence and claim it isn’t a knee-jerk political decision.

As one of the few astronaut-ai researcher representatives, it will be hard to see him go. However, I’m glad to see he’s leaving to focus more on his efforts to keep the earth safe from Skeletor and the forces of Cobra.

I like how when federal congresspeople do wrong by their constituents, or even break the law, there’s no way for their constituents to recall them and our federal legislature isn’t functional enough to expel people who lie, incite insurrection, and have relations with underage people. Seems really healthy. There is no democracy in this country.

GOP, party of law, until one of their own is breaking the law, then they’d rather maintain majority rather than expel one of their own.
