58 per cent of Canadians surveyed said they no longer view the U.S. as a reliable ally

Over two-thirds of Canadians said the U.S. tends to create problems for other countries rather than solve them

Canadians say that because that is simply what it is.

The US always has been a shitty ally at best, now it’s outright hostile and a lot more capable than Russia (ignoring that tidbit where Russia has a big influence in US politics now)

They’re the defacto evil empire of the world. We just got preferential treatment as their evil little sidekick.

It’s good to see that most of us have a realistic assesment. The US is an obviously bigger threat to us than Russia, economically, militarily, interference, etc.

The US is far more likely to be involved in starting WW3 than russia’s part in it. The US also probably thinks its the only way to “be great again” by having another post war economic miracle.

Absolutely right. And quite realistically scary actually. They have the experience post-WWII and some people in the circles of power are certainly making that argument. Some large firms would benefit tremendously, others would lose. I imagine the prospective losers are the ones making the counterargument.

The US king-wanabee made threats to take over Canada. I don’t recall Russia making a similar threats. So that’s totally expected and understandable from canadians.

It takes effort to appear more dangerous and threatening than Russia. The USA succeded.

Not just Canada, but also Mexico. It seems intentional with the way Trump wants to eagerly lick Putin’s butthole.

What is the difference between Russia and the US?

Just this week, Kirill Dmitriev, Putin’s “economic envoy” who also serves as CEO of Russia’s Direct Investment Fund, pitches joint US-Russia projects of 14 trillion USD, contingent on a peace agreement in Ukraine and the lifting of Western sanctions.

Also this week we heard that Gentry Beach, a US investor with close ties to the Trump family, signed an agreement with Russia’s energy giant Novatek already last autumn to develop natural gas in Alaska amid Western sanctions against Russia.

Trump’s negotiators for peace in Ukraine are Steven Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, two real estate developers and investor. What do they negotiate?

If such polls are useful at all then only to distract from reality. That helps autocratic regimes as they make autocratic regimes like Russia and China look as the lesser evil. It’s not true, though.
