      I mean it literally happens all the time in sports. You want your team or in this case country to win.

          I suppose in theory one’s preference could be that the U.S. selected the worst possible athletes, but that those athletes perform their best.

          It’s just logical, if I want to see the US lose that means I want to see the others win… not that hard to understand is it?
