A castle in my city burned down maybe a few years ago. To me, it was just a tourist spot but my friends who live in another parts of the country were asking me if I was alright and showed me support by donating for its reconstruction efforts (even though I never donated a penny).
So, I was pretty surprised how I got a more sentimental than I thought I ever would when I saw the images of the castle burning and seeing the rubble in-person.
What I’m trying to say is, I would imagine people who have real emotional and spiritual connection to a landmark would take something like the girl’s comments quite personally. The French guy’s reaction might be a bit overkill, but the girl is definitely being insensitive. Even if she genuinely found it pleasing, she should have just kept it to herself or maybe phrased it better.
That’s a perfect way to describe it.
k0e3to Canada•Statistics Canada says Canadian-resident return trips from U.S. down again in April7·2 days agoWhy do they keep measuring the number of people returning from the US? My dummy brain thinks the number of people going to the US would indicate the number of Canadians visiting the shit hole. Is it because we only track people coming in?
That’s the one! I had heard about it in Stuff You Should Know years ago and couldn’t remember the title for the life of me. Thank you!
Thanks! I’ll have to look for a place that does showings near my place!

It’s only a pause and the US consumers are still paying more for no good reason. The situation just went from worst to less horrible and people are buying??
Put it in a ziplock bag with ice.
There’s an old movie with some kind of audience participation culture where people dress up and yell during movies but I can’t remember what it is. I think they have annual showings in some independent movie theatres. Does anyone know what I’m talking about?

The Switch is definitely the last of their console I buy for the foreseeable future.

It’s so expensive in the States… I live in Okinawa, Japan, so if I wanted to go to Disneyland, I’d have to fly to Tokyo and stay (not at the resort, somewhere in the city) for two few nights to make the most of the day in TDL. Even then, if I were to go today with my wife and two kids, it would probably only cost me 2-3k USD, total.

As someone who’s trying to move back to Canada, I’m also reading that a lot of the places owned by these investors are basically useless boxes that no local would live in. So even if they got freed up, there’d be very little demand for them.
