A judge has sided with Parkland Corp. in its last-minute decision to delay its shareholder meeting by more than a month so investors can vote on a US$9.1-billion takeover by Sunoco LP at the same time they elect a board of directors. A showdown had been set to take place in Calgary on Tuesday.

    If this goes through, it’s going to fuck up a lot of those “other companies” that Parkland owns

    I work for M&M Food Market, and we are owned by Parkland. If they get bought by Sunoco, our “Proudly Canadian” legacy goes tits up immediately.

    Should not happen, we should not sell Canadian companies to foreign investors. First thing that happens almost always is the local Canadian company gets shutdown.

      Why stop at oil, why not manufacturing, mining, lumber, banks, hydro, etc…?

      What is it that makes oil special when we could nationalize everything?

        Or at the very least have a nationalized competitor to the private options. (And add groceries to your list.)

        Look at Saskatchewan cell phone prices. They’re the lowest in the country because they still have their provincial telecom, SaskTel.

          I think that’s more fair, rather than nationalizing only one provinces exports. I’d like housing be blocked for foreign and corporate investment too, as a first step, nationalize it so it can only be owned by citizens who live here at least 6 months of the year.
