World News@quokk.au•B.C. to end time changes, adopt year-round daylight time
10·4 days agoNice! Now do the rest of Canada!
Wouldn’t you die of starvation/dehydration long before being digested, leaving no conciousness to absorb?

Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•Hi StarTrek.website, I'm Karim Diané aka Jay-Den Kraag from Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, AMA! (Responding to questions Thursday @4pm!)English
51·15 days agoWell I don’t live in the US, so yeah I know. Anyway, my point is that “easier” is subjective and very much based on a person’s experience.
I’ve looked up UTC compared to my time many times and it just doesn’t stick. I don’t know what the current UTC time is but I could tell you what time it is in Newfoundland no problem. 🤷♂️

52·15 days agoDepends… I grew up with TV stations advertising shows in Eastern/Pacific time zones while I lived in neither.
I’ve also driven to both of those time zones and can picture how many time zones away they are in my head.
Either one of those is easier for me.
MongosteintoMental Health@lemmy.world•Is it normal to have recurring thoughts of "can I kill myself yet"?English
1·15 days agoMine are more like, “How much longer do I need to keep doing this?” as I get up and get ready for the day.
I’ve been working at this for 6 years after going through rehab. I’ve been clean since, but decided to deal with the depression using the tools they gave me instead of using medication.
I don’t want to die, but even after changing careers and becoming “my own boss,” (you’re never your own boss) I still have no enthusiasm for living.
So I dunno if it’s normal, but you’re not alone.
What do Cubans have to say about this though?

Canada•Canada not on track to hit net-zero by 2050, or meet any climate targets: study
1·17 days agoWay to put words in my worth in my mouth. All I said is remove subsidies. Fuck off, troll.
Fucking losers will goon to the idea of a “free market” but don’t anyone dare suggest oil companies actually survive with their welfare.

3·19 days agoSure if you only care about dollars that aren’t even yours.
And if it’s the most productive, why do they need my tax dollars too?

35·20 days agoSeriously. Can we stop fucking subsidizing oil? Solar is cheap now. The free market would handle the transition if we were weren’t giving them tax dollars.
That face says, “I know it’s a stupid hat, but I’m rich. Whatchagonnadoaboutit?”
It’s how movie stars can argue they’re worth million-dollar salaries. They can point to movies with their faces and say “without my face you wouldn’t have made as much money.”
We can have that too, if we create and participate in good unions that can get access to that kind of information and negotiate for us.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why was Rock 'n' Roll seen as the grooviest shit in the 50s when it's just averagely groovy (ie. unremarkable) today?
1·23 days agoI’m just gonna chime in here and say that around that time I thought Offspring’s Smash was the hardest shit ever
Yeah. We know.
I think at this point either people understand this or will never care.

I never upgraded from the Xbox One X and haven’t once felt like I’ve missed anything this entire generation.
My next console will be either a steam deck or just a living room PC running Linux.
It’s not in the budget right now though, so it depends what’s available when I decide to pull the trigger
