Yes it would be, but most instances have been hesitant to, unlike they did with the rest of the Tankie Triad (Grad and Hexbear) because .ml is supposed to be the flagship Lemmy instance and as a result has a number of official support comms and some of the biggest (by subscribers only, if you look by MAUs it’s a much different story)

On top of that, they tend to be much more subtle about it also unlike Hex/Grad which are very in your face about it. Instead opting to just censor any dissent before it gets too crazy and people catch on

So the hope is, if enough people boycott .ml, close down comms they’re in charge of, purge threads and bring down traffic even more etc it’ll be a much easier decision for LW Admins and admins everywhere to defederate.

A proper fork of Lemmy needs to happen and a new dev team needs to be established, me thinks. Unfortunately, .ml is basically a support hub for Lemmy admins so it’s not as easy to defederate as you would think.

That was my last understanding and things may have changed a bit since I stuck my head into “Lemmy politics”. Feel free to correct me if I am just wildly wrong.

Nah that’s pretty much about it, between .ml having “the big comms” (by subscriber count only) and being a support hub the decision to defederate is a difficult one, probably intentionally.

Imho, screw the support hub and defed anyways, there are alternate channels.

I don’t think Lemmy well ever be forked, Rust is rather difficult. The way I see it, either the devs gets their personal political stances under control or Lemmy will give way to up and coming replacements like piefed that are written in much easier languages and can be developed a lot faster
