I lived for 7 years right next to a highway. It was an elevated highway but i was in an apartment and we were on the side facing the highway on the top floor so i could throw a rock from my balcony and hit the asphalt.

there were not very good windows and it was maddening by the end.

Sometimes in the very wee hours there wouldn’t be a car for a few minutes and it was only then that you realized how heavy the weight of that non stop droning was.

I will never, ever live next to a major road like that again if i can help it.
