Have you ever had a dream that
That you, um, you had, you’ll, you would
You could, you do, you would you want you
    You could do some, you…
You’ll do, you could you, you want
You want him to do you so much

You could do anything, do anything

This episode bends my mind, especially as someone who is almost the same age as Stewart was when this was filmed.

It’s like, wait, which Picard am I?

that ending was a dick move to every average person. “your life means jack shit if you’re not someone seen universally as special” fucking hell.

Eh, it was more like “your life means jack shit if you’ve given up on your dreams and just settled on numbing mediocrity” type of message.

OK, but not everyone can be a rockstar. Someone has to gather the data reports for Riker. Giving up on unrealistic dreams is a sign of maturity.

My memory’s rusty, but I think Picard said a similar thing in the episode. Or was it Q?

But the perspective is from someone who did make it as a rockstar, so they’re giving up on realistic dreams, which is a sign of cowardice instead.

No doubt many of us would pick the second choice as it’s a peaceful life, but here stood someone who knew for sure they could and did so much better for themselves and for others. And in a Federation type setting, they can’t allow themselves to waste that much potential.

If you know you can do better, how often will you be satisfied doing less?
