    Eh, it was more like “your life means jack shit if you’ve given up on your dreams and just settled on numbing mediocrity” type of message.

      OK, but not everyone can be a rockstar. Someone has to gather the data reports for Riker. Giving up on unrealistic dreams is a sign of maturity.

        My memory’s rusty, but I think Picard said a similar thing in the episode. Or was it Q?

        But the perspective is from someone who did make it as a rockstar, so they’re giving up on realistic dreams, which is a sign of cowardice instead.

        No doubt many of us would pick the second choice as it’s a peaceful life, but here stood someone who knew for sure they could and did so much better for themselves and for others. And in a Federation type setting, they can’t allow themselves to waste that much potential.

        If you know you can do better, how often will you be satisfied doing less?
