    • atheists upset because Pope Francis kept the status quo like every other pope would

    • Christians upset because Pope Francis changed some things for the better, like no other pope before him

It’s weird how he had no chance.

Nor should he have had a chance. He’s a relic of an unenlightened era. The scrap heap with all of them.

It’s interesting to see the hate for this pope from both sides. I’ve seen many comments from the atheist perspective, rightfully calling out his protection of child molestors and rapists. And at the same time, read comments from “religious” people excited for his death because he dared to be liberal on a few points.

Damned if you don’t, damned if you do. I guess. /s

Almost like a singular figurehead interpreting ancient texts for application in the modern world doesn’t work.

I appreciated his general thoughts on poverty, inequality, etc. I haven’t studied them in depth so admittedly I’m mostly going off statements here and there and shallow news coverage.

The molestation/rape stuff though can’t be overlooked. The problems there go much, much deeper than any one individual and is a rot in a massive and wealthy institution that holds a lot of sway over millions of people.

And there are lots of old dinosaur thoughts in the church, like the idea that all “unnatural” birth control is wrong.

I do think Francis was probably a step overall in the right direction, but it was a small step and I’m left thinking that much more radical reform is needed.

At this point the CC is nothing more than a narrow minded hate cult with too much funds and influence at its disposal. It needs to go yesterday.

Hes probably the most left leaning pope the Vatican has ever seen. It is a slight shame but he is still a figure of an institution that has amassed a hoard of wealth keeping it from those who need it most while manipulating history and the public narrative in their interests all while covering up for child predators within their ranks to protect their wealth/interests. What little good Francis has done is unfortunately obfuscated by the awful nature of the institutional monolith he has represented

Unfortunately he’s the only one that knows and he’s in no condition to say anything.

I mean I don’t like the pope but he is better than we can expect out of the next one. There is no way the next one is even a little progressive.

      Boss calling for appraisal interview?
I don’t have anything personal against Francis and wish him the very best, but the institution with many of their conservative decisions are crap.
