The vote fell almost entirely along party lines, with only Sen. John Fetterman, a Pennsylvania Democrat, joining with all Republicans to pass her confirmation 54-46.

With no due respect, fuck Fetterman.

Democrats need to do better.

My father was republican, which makes sense because he worked in finance, but it wasn’t until his TBI that he started drinking the Maga kool-aid.

I has a TBI when I was a kid, and other than thinking classical libertarianism had a place in any modern society, I just keep getting more angrily lefty as time goes on.

Maybe if I tried breaking my head open as an adult it would have been different?

How has fetterman not been removed from the party and sued to recover campaign funds he lied to get. I don’t buy his bullshit “stroke” changing him to a republican thing

      the party

You mean the Democrats correct? Because the DNC (one of the funding arms of the blue party in the US) doesn’t actually care about the issues “the party” cares about. They have their own agenda that involves making a lot of money for their big donors. Having a rotating villain like Manchin, Lieberman, Sinema, Fetterman is the best case scenario. Because it means they don’t have to ever “actually” support things that would cost their donor’s money.

      Wait wait wait…

His rationale for turning republican is that he’s had a sudden mental & cognative decline? He’s actually admitted that?

“Hey Republicans, since having a brain injury I now align with everything your Nazi party is trying to achieve…”

His rationale for turning republican is that he’s had a sudden mental & cognative decline? He’s actually admitted that?

He spent the campaign before the stroke talking about how progressive he was and progressive policy was the only path forward…

After the stroke and election, he openly admits to not understanding why people would ever think he’s progressive…

Either he’s lying and it was all scam, or he legitimately doesn’t remember anything about his own campaign and what he was saying during it.

Either is a good reason to kick him out of the party (and office), but Dem leadership has only cared about defending incumbents without question. Because most of the Dem leadership represent voters who don’t agree with them anymore.

So if the party stops blindly defending incumbents and starts having unbiased primaries, a lot of Dem leadership will lose their personal power.

Dem leadership has already lost all power. Speculating on how to fix the party is like talking about how to fix a window on a house that just burned down.

Say what you will about Republicans but fuck they got their members always in line even if it is done through gl threat of being effectively primaried by Trump’s MAGA.

The rules were changed in 2017 for nominations. You can’t block them with filibustering anymore.

The trick to stopping this was either electing a different person to President or eliminating the Senate majority for the President’s party.

Fetterman has effectively defected. The only recourse is to kick him out of the caucus. How does that stop Trump’s agenda?

Fetterman has 4 more years to his term.

You want them to hold a gun to his head and tell him how to vote? Still doesn’t stop this confirmation. May as well do the same to the Republicans.

Then kick his fucking ass out of the caucus, like you said if it changes nothing at the end of the day then so be it. Have some damn spines and put up opposition and primary the fuck out of whoever doesn’t fall in god damn line.

And as for you “hold a gun up to his head” and Republicans, you really should listen to this The Daily Podcast about that. Hate the game but fucking play it.

The vote was 54-46. Fetterman voting with the Dems and 3 Republicans having a conscience still would not have prevented this.

The blame lies with 54 Senators and the President who nominated Bondi.
