Hey everyone. I am new to the “Fediverse” and I am confused about how Lemmy connects with PixelFed.
As I understand it, you should be able to interact with all the Fediverse platforms from just one platform, but I can’t seem to figure out how to see stuff from Mastodon or Pixelfed here on Lemmy.
Similarly, I don’t quite understand how to see stuff from Lemmy on Pixelfed. I created a Pixelfed account and tried searching for my Lemmy account over there and managed to find it, but I don’t know how to log in to it or make changes to it.
Could someone explain this to me? I am very confused!
But doesn’t that defeat the point of federation?
I think the main point of federation is being able to see something from Lemmy.zip with an account on Lemmy.ca. So if one service goes down, or a there is a difference of opinion on what the rules should be, the whole platform of “Lemmy” doesn’t go up in flames.
This prevents one person or group from controlling everything.
Oh ok.

Is there a way to crosspost across accounts on the different platforms? For example, is there a way to link posts on my Lemmy and Pixefed accounts to my Mastodon account?

It’s also early on for most of these platforms. They’re relatively new, changing rapidly, and so it’s harder to keep the platforms compatible with everything that’s out there.
As an example, there have been a few improvements over the past short while around Mastodon-Lemmy compatibility
Once the software matures, I imagine it’ll be easier to see the content in most popular formats
