Some instances are kinda obvious to figure out what they have in common, like the now-extinct VeganTheoryClub, but some are a little harder to figure out, like the ml in Lemmy.ml is for Marxist-Leninists.

Something that’s a little different compared to other social media platforms (and isn’t on your list of thought/questions) is being able to judge books by their covers.
Since you can choose which is your home instance is based on the rules, moderation, and general vibe, the instance someone is from can tell you A LOT about them. There are some users who just mute all users from certain instances, because of this.
If you’re on Lemmy.world (which is based on the Netherlands, but everyone just assumes is from the USA), you likely won’t be muted because of your home instance since it’s basically the default.
That’s just not true.
A good moderator on a platform like lemmy removes content that breaks the rules, and ban users who are unwilling to learn or improve.
I’m not American, and Obama did order war crimes, but I remember things being a little different.
I remember children being sent to the USA on their own, because it was believed that minors without guardians would be allowed to stay in the country instead of being deported.
I don’t remember the USA government stealing children.
They likely have dual citizenship, which would mean they are “truly Canadian”.
If they have dual citizenship, they also likely joined the Israeli military because commiting genocide is easier for some people than revoking their citizenship.
She dedicated her Nobel to Trump on social media.
They tried, in real life, with the animal that was cast as the character in the movie.
Carney is a little right wing for my liking, but I don’t think anything since he’s been prime minister can be considered anything close to martial law.
Unless people were going to be eating things like marten and fox anyway, it’s not really a fair comparison.
A lot of leather is a byproduct of the meat industry, meaning the animal wasn’t killed for leather, the skin was used instead of just being thrown away.
But I’ve been vegan for over a decade, so I’m not going to be pro-fur anytime soon.
They are definitely being underpaid with wholesale, but you often don’t get to set your price to the factories. The processing/distribution company tells you how much they are buying for, and you can either agree to sell at that price, or move on. Since there are only so many places who will buy that amount of food, you kinda need to suck it up.
You make way less selling things wholesale, than you do selling small amounts to a larger number of people.
If you sell to a grocery store, after you pay to grow them, then you pay to harvest them, then you pay to store them, the you pay to ship them. Then a factory pays to clean them, then to label/package them, then to store them, then to ship them to the grocery store’s distribution centre. Then they pay to store them, then ship them to the grocery store. Then they pay someone to get them to the shelf, and pay someone to run the till.
If you do a “u-pick” set-up, you grow the fruit, then you pay someone to run the till.
It’s pretty bad when the hospitals need to make public announcements that they’re closed during certain hours because of lack of staff.
A large-enough group of people were shitty to a lot of health care workers during covid, which sure didn’t help staffing ontop of Saskparty budget and policies.
The rule isn’t to make your title an honest summary, the rule is to keep the original title.
There’s one rule in the side bar, it should be easy to follow.
Keep the original title when submitting an article. You can put your own commentary in the body of the post or in the comment section.
This post isn’t about liberals, it’s about Liberals, the political party in Canada.
They recently announced 5 major projects they were going to fund, one of which is related to increasing LNP (aka Liquid Natural Gas, aka methane) production. They said they are considering a high-speed rail corridor in the second phase of projects, but increasing the amount of methane Canada can produce/sell was a higher priority.
Co-ops and non-profits are also corporations.
Great day for society though!
Paying a private eye to follow around the judge who is ruling over an active case you have before them is not okay, and every competent lawyer knows this.
I think the actual point of their move was to be able to try to use it for appeal when they lost the case. Appeals should be for actual merit, or constitutional issues, not because you purposely did something to make a judge hate you.
The glasses only cost $350, so they’re not out of reach for most people.
And if they are prescription, they are now a medical device, not just a toy, and they might be covered under health insurance
They said the bans are trying to erase anything that makes young children harder to sexually abuse.
Some do.
Just because you’re LGBTQ+, doesn’t automatically mean that you drop all of your biases and logical incongruities.
