now that arch has an actual install script, i’m not sure if there’s much reason to use an arch derivative instead of just using arch

For as many marginalised people I’ve met who would feel discomfort around remaining federated, I’ve known just as many that get stressed out and exhausted by conflict over what to them seems like a ‘minor thing’, because of the vitriol, spite, etc. that comes with it. Especially when, as the other person above alluded to, some people seem to get involved in these things specifically for the sake of conflict, rather than any meaningful political stance.)
This was my problem when I tried mastodon. There was always some drama between instances over some minor thing that people decided was the most important thing in the world
The overview in the spec is probably as good of a summary as anyone could give you.
But some of the comments for that video suggest that they aren’t able to connect to people outside of that bubble, since these people’s instances might block NSFW ones.
I think a lot of times that’s due to the risk of hosting potentially illegal federated content from nsfw instances.
The idea that people thought they needed to explain the different Klingon makeup because of a throwaway joke in a comedic episode is honestly crazy
doesn’t the average american read at a 6th grade level or something?
They’re probably not too worried about people getting them mixed up with 15 year old CPUs
a lot of rust’s safety is basically the compiler enforcing things that are already considered modern c++ best practices
Sounds like a good feature, though not exactly a ‘disadvantage’, without a comparison. Is the comparison Mastodon? Reddit?
This is definitely a disadvantage in comparison to Mastodon imo. For example, there’s no reason for a general-purpose instance to defederate from lemmynsfw.com, but it would be nice if I could browse all and not have it be half porn without hiding all nsfw posts in general.
yeah, it could be more comfortable than a normal ereader for reading lying on your back or something, but it seems really gimmicky
not sure this is a better solution for being able to focus on reading than just like putting your phone in another room for an hour for free
redditors, what is the sexiest le sex you’ve ever sexed?
based on mastodon servers blowing up when people “left” twitter, like 90% of new users will be gone in a couple weeks
4chan definitely got worse. like it was always edgy and stupid, but after 2015 every board just kind of became /pol/
a lot of obviously made up posts on aita are more ragebait than just entertainment, so it might kind of drift into misinformation
the blackout is like if a union went on strike but agreed to come back to work in two days regardless of whether any of their demands were met. it’s hard to see this affecting reddit at all tbh
Reddit is anti-nintendo? r/all has been full of posts about how great the new Zelda is since it came out
I like rust a lot, but it’s definitely in the place Go was a few years ago, where people just assume “written in rust” = good for some reason.
who doesn’t absolutely need to be on Twitter for their job
does this include journalists who would need to actually write articles instead of just embedding 10 tweets and writing a couple linking sentences
Calling GNOME a radically different interface is kind of overstating it. It basically just replaces the taskbar/dock with the overview
