  • Great reframing device put forth by the author, even though the article hammers it a bit much for my tastes.

The larger question however remains unanswered: How do we motivate people to do their part in keeping everyone safe? The suggestions in the article have either already backfired (vaccination mandates at schools, works, etc), or are only really effective if a disease has already started to claim lives (the “fear” method the author rightfully dislikes).

I’m honestly wondering how we can ever get that antivax genie back into the bottle it escaped from. Perhaps letting some virusses run rampant every now and again to remind the public of the risks is the price we’ll need to pay 😕

  • Counterargument: The Solterra is by far the cheapest if you account for the federal and provincial rebates here in Canada, on top of the massive price cut Subaru gives you on the models it has sitting in their lots and the fact you can lease them at 0.49% APR.

Honestly, the only downside to our Solterra has been the slow fast chasing, which make no major difference for us because our daily commute fits easily within the car’s range. Even in winter.

OP - Don’t get discouraged by some of the negative reviews and comments about the Solterra. If you are able to get a good deal on one, the biggest complaint most reviewers have (paraphrased “it’s not worth it at this price”) falls away and you’re left with a very nice to drive and capable car for daily commutes and just about anything else that isn’t 2+ hour road trips.

[Edit] For the record: This is our fourth EV, after a second gen Leaf, Fiat 500e, and Hyundai Kona E.

While that’s largely true, it also oversimplifies the realities of the conflict.

Without American aid the Russians wouldn’t have been able to repel the Germans nearly as effective as they did (if at all), and without D-day splitting the war into two fronts, Russian losses on the way to Berlin would’ve been significantly higher.

That all said, Trump’s statement is obviously horseshit and a complete disservice to the rest of all the allied forces.

  • We’re quite jealous of your voting system here in upside-down Australia. We just had another “vote strategic” moment that resulted in all of the minor parties losing influence just to keep the conservatives out of power. Trudeau’s biggest lasting failure will be his inability to actually pass vote reform like he promised, and FPTP will eventually result in us graduating from US-light to full on US-two-party-ism.

While I agree with your main point (which to me sounds like “don’t let your cats outside as they’re an invasive species and will do serious damage to the local ecosystem”), suggesting to kill them on sight is a bit harsh and won’t make you many allies.

We have much more humane options to capture, return, and if needed rehouse cats. Remember that these objectively invasive animals are also people’s companions, and that some folks simply don’t know better than the old belief that “cats should roam”.
