This is just one of thousands of examples of immense disrespect. And his cult follows him along through everything.
I’m all seriousness, if you find this appealing, would you not be happier if you just move there? If you have no allegiance to this country, please be respectful, have some dignity, and don’t actively try to ruin it for the rest of us. Stop trying to sabotage this country by actively undermining it.
Do we have any source? I can’t find it on truthsocial.com
I’d flatten my nuts with a mallet before I go on truth social, but if you google it you can find other sources talking about it. Such as New York Post, who I assume is proud of his announcement: https://nypost.com/2025/05/02/us-news/trump-declares-may-8-victory-day-for-world-war-ii/
As usual with Trump, when you look into it you realize it’s worse than you originally thought:
Trump acknowledged in a Truth Social that “many of our allies and friends” already celebrate on May 8, but said America should join in because “we did more than any other Country, by far, in producing a victorious result.
Man, fuck this guy.
Apparently Trump has made it official - he thinks he will be the next Pope.
This can’t be a real thing.
I’m not religious, but I feel like this is somehow extra super duper disrespectful. Religious folk are not known for their tolerance of false or satirical iconography.
But I guess he’s insulting Catholics so it’s probably totally cool with his evangelical base. Oh who am I kidding, he could make AI scat porn with their Lord and Saviour and they’d find a passage in the Bible that supports it.
He has no clue whatsoever about faith and scripture and fits the description of the Antichrist perfectly (I’m too lazy to look up sources right now) - still gets tired as sent by God, etc.
I don’t get it, must be brain worms or something.
America claiming it did more than any otber country to achieve victory in WW2 has to be the most laughable shit. I hope the rest of the world sees it that way
It’s laughable, but with extremely sinister undertones
I’m not a tankie but facts are facts. Russia was why the allies won WW2 in Europe, followed closely by the UK.
I wouldn’t say the UK was the second most influential—realistically, that spot goes to the US. And I’m not even a big fan of the US right now, but their industrial power, global logistics, and role in both Europe and the Pacific made a massive difference. Without their support, especially through Lend-Lease and D-Day, things could’ve turned out very differently.
Actually, it was the Canadian soldiers that marched through Italy; the Canadian soldiers that marched north to Denmark and protected the American flank; the Canadian landing at Juno beach which not only protected the American flank, but pushed further and faster, greeting the American troops as they finally pushed off of their beachhead; the Canadian top command that developed the more efficient ways of fighting a modern battle, especially the results learned from the essentially Canadian Dieppe raid (which WAS successful, the Canadians got off the beach and made it to the post office for what they went for); the Canadian scientists that worked on the development of the Atomic bomb long before the Manhattan Project, and went on to establish Chalk River; the Canadian merchant marine that kept Britain supplied during the war… the list goes on and on. You do not need to be a tankie, just a good student of Canadian history.
Unfortunately for our Canadian legacy, we do not brag.
While that’s largely true, it also oversimplifies the realities of the conflict.
Without American aid the Russians wouldn’t have been able to repel the Germans nearly as effective as they did (if at all), and without D-day splitting the war into two fronts, Russian losses on the way to Berlin would’ve been significantly higher.
That all said, Trump’s statement is obviously horseshit and a complete disservice to the rest of all the allied forces.
Exactly. Every nation gave something. The USSR gave immense amounts of life, the British gave intelligence, the Americans gave industrial capacity, the Canadians, Australians, and New Zealish gave a courage that they rarely are credited for, many British colonies gave enough to be able to leverage it in their pushes for sovereignty, the occupied nations and surviving German and Italian antifascists gave their resistance, intelligence, and worked to keep victims safe.
No nation beat the axis alone. Each combatant gave enough lives to hurt. Each nation gave enough money that the civilians felt the pain. And each nation had both fascists and antifascists in it. When we focus on who did most we open the door to nationalistic thinking when the lesson we should take is an internationalist one
Stupid is stupid, no matter what country you are from. There will always be people who prefer ignorance to education, in any country. The trick is to deal with them efficiently and effectively. “Just watch me.”
The bone spurs could not even be bothered to go to war when his name was called, yet his brother did.
He has no right to say poop about war.
would you not be happier if you just move there?
It’s not super complicated. These people consume US-based propaganda constantly, but can’t move there because they have no skills nor enough cash to be able to immigrate.
I do wonder if at some point soon the US will grant “refugee” status to white Canadian MAGA to help them flip swing districts there.
If they move it will raise the average IQ of both countries.
I’ll be the Debbie downer and respond to your silly joke with a serious reply.
Quite often political affiliation is related to cultural or geographical factors and not intelligence. I’ve lived in a variety of places both leaning conservative and liberal, including a couple US states. I’ve both met intelligent and idiotic people everywhere I’ve been.
I’ve also seen people be willfully ignorant on both sides of the political spectrum. This isn’t to say “enlightened centrism, all sides equal” because fascism is quite uniquely bad. But the tendencies to get into these bubbles are a human behaviour and not geographic.
Apologies for the pedantic response to what was clearly a harmless joke.
I see where you’re trying to say here, but you’re making the mistake of conflating conservatism with fascism. There may well be right leaning people and left-leaning people with similar IQs, but it requires a special degree of stupid and willful ignorance to believe the many, many lies that come out of the Trump Whitehouse.
I’m not making any mistake.
Intelligent people can choose to be willfully ignorant, no matter their political affiliation. For example I personally know a person who is extremely brilliant yet parrot Jordan Peterson. This person is amongst the world’s most capable in his highly competitive and lucrative field — so while I find this person’s politics deeply abhorrent I cannot find him stupid.
The problem with over-attributing stupidity to things we simply don’t like is that it masks the other factors which produce the outcomes we as a society are trying to avoid, such as fascism.
I’m not making any mistake.
…
Intelligent people can choose to be willfully ignorant…
Careful with that selection bias Debbie. Those things look sharp.
“Stupid” is deliberately doing what you should KNOW is counter to good results. It has nothing to do with intelligence. The winners of the Darwin Awards usually do not lack intelligence, they are just stupid (or at least just do stupid things).
Being very conservative with your money, handling it in a conservative manner, running a business conservatively, has nothing to do with fascism. THAT is the problem we are currently facing - the blunt fact that fascism is not the same as being conservative (small ‘c’), but that the Conservatives (capital ‘C’) are also becoming fascist along with being conservative. Two entirely different things.
Diefenbaker could NEVER, in any intelligent discussion, be labeled as a ‘fascist’. He was in many ways very socially responsible.
Carney, although he is the leader of the Liberal party, will methinks turnout to be conservative in his economic policies, just like Turner was.
I believe we’re both misunderstanding what the other person is saying because I don’t feel like your reply relates to what I said. Which doesn’t mean it was your error, I’m sure it was at least equally my misinterpretation of your reply.
Either way we are talking past each other, so I’ll wish you well and leave it at that. Cheers
My reply was not meant to contradict what you said, only to clarify the term ‘stupid’. It is quite correct to call Jordan ‘stupid’ without reference to his intelligence. Trump is, in fact; reasonably intelligent in a narcissistic way, but I also do not think he can be called ‘stupid’ for what he is doing, in the sense that he has every intention of causing the chaos he is, the chaos is ‘good results’ as far as he is concerned. It is not ‘unintended consequences’ on his part, it is not any lack of understanding on his part, it is deliberate and expected results. After all, he took many of his companies bankrupt as a legitimate business move, to stop the bleeding. On the other hand, the people who FOLLOW him CAN be considered ‘stupid’ under the definition.
That is, it is not reasonable to label Trump as stupid for doing what he is doing in order to achieve his objectives, but it is stupid to go along with it. It is perhaps stupid for people to not realize what Trump’s real objectives are. It is reasonable to label most of the Americans who voted for him as stupid (except those who actually agree with the 2025 Manifesto objectives). But given what Trump’s objectives are, it is quite reasonable and rational to expect him to do what he is doing.
Also to expound on the difference between ‘fascism’ and small ‘c’ ‘conservative’ vs capital ‘C’ Conservative.
The entire point of a Memorial Day or a Remembrance Day is to honour the sacrifice and to lament that it was necessary. Simpleton Trump thinks it should be about celebrating victory. It is hard not to feel bad for somebody that is so incomplete as a human being.
Trump is a disgrace to humanity and the millions that fought and died for freedom. Freedom which he was able to live in, but was too chicken shit to ever fight in. Freedom he now wants to destroy.
I’ll happily celebrate victory day on the day of his death and hopefully it’s celebrated worldwide. Liberation day would also work.
May the dark angel of death take Trumps life immediately.
Someone needs to tell private bone spurs / asshole in chief how many millions of people died in other countries.
He doesn’t care. He thinks those people are losers. He has no concept of what war means for the people fighting in it, it’s just an abstraction, it’s just a word that can be pulled out when conversations need to be redirected or attentions refocused. It means nothing.
No, of course, he doesn’t care, which is always the point with him.
Yeah, if we’re being honest, Russia fought beyond the bounds of mere bravery, and sacrificed in numbers incomprehensible in the west. And their country is still suffering national PTSD from it.
Even Canada sacrificed more per capita than the US in both world wars.
The above may have been different if the US had been there from the beginning, rather than showing up two years late. Don’t talk about bravery, brilliance and principle when you can’t even be bothered to join the fight until after everyone is beat to a pulp. And if you do, try not to brag and boast for decades about how amazing you were.
“Even” Canada?
I’m Canadian, with a family that’s been in the military and fought in every war as far back as we trace our genealogy on the continent. United Empire Loyalists that separated from a New Jersey revolutionary family to move to Ontario.
Having said all of that, my comment was only meant to illustrate that even Canada, with a population and a manufacturing base a fraction of the US, bled more per capita. But not according to any American narritives, certainly not according to Trump and his cult.

Can we talk about deaths per capita and military and civilians contributing to war effort per capita for a country that was NOT itself attacked?
Yes, there were U-Boats attacking merchant marines on the east coast and Japanese balloons flying in on the west. But the societal contribution to a war not in our soil was and is astonishing.
Our population is really small? That’s my best guess
No kidding…this corpulent hemorrhoid is as soft as baby shit, what the fuck is he going on about?
The day Idi AnOrange Dada decides to shuffle off his mortal coil will be the day the world can start to heal. And it will be a long, long road, littered with a hopefully diminishing cadre of cultist partisans.
The disrespect to literally all of the WW2 ally countries is disgusting. They did fuckall till the Normandy landings and couldn’t give less of a shit about WW2 till pearl harbour. Military aid is not comparable to being on the front lines.
The only victory day I’ll be celebrating is Trump’s death.
Unfortunately, you will be celebrating too soon. Vance is far more fascist-oriented than Trump will ever be.
What a colossal piece of shit.
Every single day he finds a new way to enforce the idea that he is, in fact, a colossal piece of shit.
I can’t wait to be able to piss on his grave, that day can’t come soon enough…
You won’t find those people here, they are on truth social.
You’re probably not going to get a lot of answers from your intended audience on Lemmy.
Also, it’s indefensible and could not exist without willful ignorance.
