Hello!
All this federation is so cool but also so new :-) which makes it even cooler IMO!
I thought you could “sub” to another Lemmy sub, for example I thought this one was potentially nice:
https://sh.itjust.works/c/plugins
But how can I, if I can, sub to that sub when I’m logged here on lemmy.ml ?
Cheers and thanks!
Edit: spelling
The easiest to explain method:
- Copy the link https://sh.itjust.works/c/plugins
- Paste it to search box at lemmy.ml
- The search results open the foreign sub while staying in your own instance
- Subscribe
The other way:
Click this link to skip some of the steps above:
https://lemmy.ml/c/[email protected]
Look how I made this link, you can do the same for other subs too.Slightly unintuitive but works perfectly well!
Thanks a bunch 💖!
This is only if no one on your instance has subscribed to that community yet. Once one user has all you’d need to do is search “plugins” and It would pop up.
You have to follow a specific URL scheme. In your case it’s
https://lemmy.ml/c/[email protected]
So it’s always yourinstance.com/c/[email protected]
But you don’t need to remember this. Copy the URL “https://sh.itjust.works/c/plugins” into search on your instance, and it should come up.
If you’re the first person on your instance, sometimes it can take some time, or require a refresh, but it should work.
All of the others forgot to mention one thing. Currently there is a bug to subscribe to a community.
So if there is no button in the sidebar, that is because the bug.
I’ve found the way around that is to enter any random post in that community and the sub appears on the sidebar now.
