MINNEAPOLIS — #Unions and community groups gathered in front of the Hennepin County Government Center in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, this morning to announce a day of “no work, no school, no shopping” on January 23 to oppose the ferocious assault on the state by federal #immigration authorities.
“We are facing a tsunami of hate from our own federal government,” Abdikarim Khasim, a Minnesota rideshare driver, told the crowd. “We’re going to shut it down on the 23rd. We’re going to overcome this.”
In solidarity, I will also do nothing on the 23rd
But Jeff (I assume your name is Jeff), that’s what you do every day.

Or if our leaders grow a particularly large pair of balls, they could attempt nullification.
Recognize ICE as it stands as unconstitutional, and evict/imprison them for harassing people.

Almost as unlikely as coordinating a national general strike
For a national general strike to work you need to get buy-in (ideally pledges) from major trade unions all across the US, as well as non-union organizations due to the very low union membership here in the US. Simply calling for one and then having almost nobody participate would be a disaster and would set the movement back, which is why it’s important to do the work of organizing a coalition to agree ahead of time to participate. The short of it is, if you want this to happen (which I do as well), start selling the idea to the people who need to buy it now and get them talking. The only reason they were able to get this organized so quickly in MN is because of how dire the situation is on the ground, so that everyone asked was immediately on board.
That’s what America needs now and not just for a day, they need to keep it up until things change
My username says it all. Let’s organize and do it.
This is the solution. Stop contributing to the economy of the people fucking you over.
I would give you an infinite amount of upvotes if technically possible. This is the answer.
Everyone should go tax exempt. Put that money aside until April 2027.
I hope they stay safe.
There is going to be an “extreme cold event” on that date so most of that’s is happening either way.
This will have zero effect. It’s ice out until they are out.
True, but they should do it anyway in the hopes that it will normalize doing it more in the future.
I shouldn’t bother responding to this energy-suck, but god damn I get so mad reading so many versions of the same defeatist comment. Why do you even take the time to write it?
