Since the reason so many people moved because of the third-party app changes, wouldn’t it make sense for a Lemmy app to be made. Obviously not yet since the developers are already under a lot of stress with the amount of new users Lemmy is gaining.
Still, it would make me 100% swap full-time to Lemmy. Keep up the good work though.
Android already does have an app, Jerboa: https://f-droid.org/packages/com.jerboa/
Not sure about iOs, since I don’t use it.
Think it’s called mlem?
That’s what I’ve been using, and I enjoy it. Similar to the website, but a bit more convenient.
others have mentioned jerboa for android and there is mlem for ios! both are listed here if you want to look into them https://join-lemmy.org/apps/
Worth mentioning that mlem is in a very early stage of development. Expect daily testflight updates and missing features. I like it so far though! [email protected]
Also: it’s fairly useless on an iPad, because it’s simply a scaled iPhone version. Lots of wasted real estate and no fun.
Since others have mentioned jerboa and Mlem already, you can also install your instances webpage as a PWA. Navigate to the page in Firefox or chrome on mobile (idk about safari) and click the install option within the browser settings. Then click to add to homescreen.
I’ve been doing it this way so far. Works well.
Check out jerboa! Just a couple days ago I would have told you it isn’t worth it but in these days they have made a lot of improvement after much needed help from volunteers.
Also you can install lemmy as a progressive web app from chrome or firefox easily and it’s also great.
I also hope for a better alternative, since I am used to the experience that Boost for reddit gives, but really I’m not missing reddit at all.
Good thing is some Reddit apps announced plans of supporting Lemmy or other Fediverse accounts and I wish they follow through.
Do you know which ones have announced plans?
I don’t have a list but the one I use RedReader have expressed a possibility. It won’t be surprising if other capable devs would also do it and I’m surprised it’s not as common as Twitter+Mastodon apps in the mid-2010s
As others have said, Jerboa is for android… I’ve heard mention of “mlem” for IOS, but have not seen it myself.
Have you tried Jerboa?
I’m using mlem on iOS, and you need to sign up for it on Test Flight. It definitely has some rough edges, given it’s in beta. But hoping with time it’ll get better
I might have misunderstood this, but I think the Kbin developer was considering emulating the Reddit API. So existing Reddit apps could just be plugged into it.
I don’t feel as much need for an app, because the web interface works well on my phone and isn’t slow and full of ads.
Liking mlem so far. Would recommend.
Yes you can use apps, also you can create a shortcut in whatever browser you use on the device. At least you can on Android.
Now, I could be wrong because I’m still new to all of this, but I believe OP is wishing there was an app for kbin, another reddit-like fediverse alternative. This means Jerboa and Mlem wouldn’t work for kbin.
I created an account on Lemmy.ml but wanted to switch to kbin after reading some problematic things about the developers. No idea if they are true, just didn’t want to deal with it. Besides, I can access the same instances through an account on kbin.
