Janeway: would have had the filter off initially because she trusted her crew to exhibit perfect decorum even without it, immediately switched it on once the Maqui joined, then flipped it off again sometime later (specific ep recommendations anyone?) because she didn’t gaf anymore.
Sisko: considered turning it off but opted to leave it on to reduce bar brawls at Quark’s. Turned it off on the Defiant.
Picard: on, but removed “damn” from the censorship list, as a little treat.
VOY: B’elanna never stopped cursing and only got worse after Seven joined and intensified further during pregnancy.
TNG: “Merde” is the preffered nomenclature.

Some Federation ships are in The Bad Place (equinox…cough).
You’ve been assigned to a ship in The Good Place.
The Undiscovered what??!? Oh, there’s a final “ry”. The Undiscovered Country.
The Aussie cut was better
You forgot to say “away” again
It’s all fun and games till they start swearing like quebecers

Actually I think this would be perfect middle ground for volcan profanity but it’s based around logic instead of the catholic church
Tabernac!
Doesn’t Commander T’Ana in Lower Decks swear constantly?
Though typically partially bleeped, but yes.
lol … they turn off the swear filter and everyone starts talking like my trailer trash neighbours down the street
“Yeah, we fucking had a fuckin bbq last night, and I fuckin had a beer and the fuckin beer burst the fuck open and fucking sprayed fuckin beer like fucking all of the fuckin place and fucked up shit and then we ate some fuckin chicken and the fuckin chicken got fuckin burnt but we fucking ate it anyway … yeah it was fucking crazy … but how the fuck are you doing?”
Easy explanation: Upgrades to the universal translator have allowed more colorful language, which is often slang, to be translated correctly.
“Illogical” is just the translator making a mild version of the actual phrase “How the fuck did you manage to stay out of special fucking ed with a dumbass statement like that??”
The non-swearing wasn’t because they were more « advanced » in the series, it was censorship from TV diffusers at the time (in the 60’s). Swearing simply wasn’t allowed on TV.
What is this “TV” you speak of?
A sort of 2D holoprogram where everyone’s an NPC. Ask Quark for the “Retro Package”.
