You know, I get the sense Roddenberry and co. thought of WW3, riots, and so on were inevitable but had the hope that eventually mankind would get over it. Too bad the latter is probably the less likely part of that prophecy.

If you look at history, major events tend to swing like a pendulum, big swing authoritarian then a big swing anti-authoritarian. After the anti-authoritarian swing society tends to keep the more liberal ideals when the pendulum returns to the center.

Not saying we’ll see the united earth or star trek ideals in our lifetime, but as long as we don’t nuke ourselves out of existence future generations might.

Well, we are still not in a nuclear war.

And anyway, the way mankind gets over it is the largest deus ex machina ever created in sci-fi. So, don’t count on it either.

Wasn’t half of LA supposed to disappear under water after an earthquake as well? (From they episode in Voyager when they went back in time to earth)

Lets not get ahead of ourselves. Best not tempt the “ring of fire” into action if it can be helped.

Sadly the Eugenics War was WW1, since that was a thing. However- yeah, send me into space with Kahn. I’ll take that risk for being awesome.
