Counterpoint, the more into HiFi I get, the more I want to build up my physical media collection (vinyl, cassettes, CDs). Probably less convenient and more expensive, but gives me peace of mind and joy (putting on a record is an event vs streaming something).
Physical media gives the process a ritualistic feel that you can’t get any other way.
I totally relate to this. I much prefer physical media for many reasons, and chief among that I definitely find I enjoy music more if it’s on a record specifically. Even if it sounds worse, like you said it’s an event and I find it far more enjoyable.
I haven’t heard any of these new streaming amplifiers yet, but I can hope – and reasonably expect – that the sonic performance has also matured across the board, even accounting for the compromises made when combining all separate hi-fi elements under one roof.
Well, that’s certainly a ringing endorsement.
