They were supposed to open for Iron Maiden when I saw them last year but had equipment issues or something and couldn’t play :( I was looking forward to seeing them. Their music is sick.

I absolutely love Bob and Doug McKenzie but they’re definitely not representative of the average Canadian. Like you said, they’re playing it up for their characters. They play an exaggerated stereotype of a dim-witted drunken Canadian. They’re kind of like Canadian Homer Simpsons in a way. A great comedy duo, truly one of the best, but most Canadians don’t sound like that.

Let’s hope the new “Toronto man” accent doesn’t come to represent all of Canada in the coming years.

How does an American pronounce it?

A vast majority of the Canadians I know pronounce it the same way as “out”, “sprout”, “trout” etc.

I definitely use “eh” a lot, that stereotype is pretty accurate, though I feel like a lot of Americans don’t quite understand the usage of the word.

I never understood this stereotype (aboot vs about). I’m Canadian, lived here all my life, my family is all Canadian and all have lived here all their lives. I’ve got family all across the country, from the western coast of BC to the eastern coast of Newfoundland, from the northern stretches of Nunavut to the most southern tip of Ontario, and very rarely have I ever heard it pronounced that way. It’s actually really funny as a Canadian to look up “how to speak like a Canadian” and watch how awful most of the “tips” are. I’d recommend it.

They’re both fantastic games. I can’t decide which I like more, they’re both very high up on my list of all-time favourite games.

Oh nice. I’ve been meaning to play it for a while now, so now I’ve got a good reason to check it out. It’ll move up on the queue in my backlog I suppose.

Definitely where I live it was. I used to cycle between all the rock radio stations when listening to music and around the time that song came out it was all the radios would play. I actually liked the song when it first came out but it got so overplayed.

Yeah I’ve heard the same thing, and likewise have been tempted to try it. There is a demo on steam so I suppose I could try it out for free and see what I think. But my backlog is long enough as is, I don’t need more reason to increase that.

Enjoy. It’s a really fun game. I won’t spoil anything but I really enjoyed the last little bit of the game. I haven’t played the sequel but I heard it wasn’t nearly as good. I do own it in my backlog but I haven’t tried it.

I’ve been thinking of that game a lot recently. Have you played it before?

Yeah there’s a fast forward button. RetroArch isn’t an emulator as such, or at least not in the same way others are, I don’t quite understand how it all works but you choose your emulator core and different cores have different settings. So if you don’t like the FF of one core, just change your core. I’m not sure it saves carry over when changing cores so maybe experiment when core settings before making any progress in the game.

I’ve been using melonDS for SoulSilver and it’s been great, FF is probably 2x speed on that one. It might be adjustable, I’m not sure. When I was playing Crystal the FF was probably closer to 10x speed, it was a bit much. But there’s lots of choices for cores so you can play around with it and see what you like.

iOS just got a fairly major overhaul to its UI too. Liquid Glass, they’re calling it. Screenshots don’t really look great but using it since yesterday, I actually prefer it. Feels a little retro-futuristic. Buttons have clearly defined edges again, everything is now transparent, and it has the same sort of distortion you’d get with those glass blocks that used to be popular in swimming pools and such (at least around here, not sure if that was universal). Probably my favourite look of iOS actually. That might be a super unpopular opinion, I’m not sure. I haven’t kept up on community opinions of iOS in a long time.
