Following the release of Shadow of War, Monolith wasn’t interested in developing another Middle-Earth game and went on to develop a new IP codenamed Legacy. However, WB Games wasn’t and still isn’t interested in developing new IP and wants its studios to concentrate on making games around already established IP
Shocking.
The Nemesis System within the Wonder Woman game was the reverse of what is in the Middle-Earth games. Instead of enemies being empowered, Wonder Woman would befriend NPCs.
Damn, as someone who likes a good, getting cats out of trees, talking to the goblins that took over your house, NPC helping time, this bums me out.
Yeah honestly this would be really at home in a Spider-Man game imho
Friendisis system doesn’t have a good ring to it.
Why is that article so hard to read? Its not grammaticaly wrong but the sentences are structured so oddly…
slight off topic but trying to contribute positively
ooh its always so interesting to come across these. writing clear and effective english is a learned skill that isn’t the same as writing “correct” english. the author seems to rely heavily on indirect and passive phrases and poor preposition use which leads to a wandering feeling:
Monolith continued work on Legacy for several years with the thought it would have enough sway due to the success it has generated in the past that it would be able to convince WB to pursue the new IP. However, that dream died in 2021 when WB Games canceled the project, which resulted in Monolith’s entire leadership, including many other developers, leaving the studio to go and form what is now Cliffhanger Games with EA.
here’s the same quote, “fixed”:
Monolith continued development of Legacy for several years, under the assumption that the IP’s past success would maintain WB’s interest in its future. That dream died with the cancellation of the project in 2021, during which Monolith’s entire leadership and many developers separated from the studio to form what is now EA’s Cliffhanger Games.
it’s possible english isn’t the author’s first language, or they simply don’t have the communications education you are used to seeing in journalism. at least you know it’s not ai though :)
Not just about money, also about a bunch of other questionable decisions.
When I was a teen and got Blood 2, I was already interested in game development (I was thinking of DigiPen with hopes of working for Nintendo, but that didn’t work out financially). I emailed them if I could take a tour to see a game studio since I was interested in it as my career. I got a reply from them (someone named Bob, I think? I don’t have access to that email anymore), and they thanked me for my interest but politely let me down citing secrets and proprietary stuff.
I just looked at their website and I think Blood 2 was the only game I played on their engines. Maybe a demo of FEAR at some point, but I don’t think so.
You’re doing yourself a disservice if Blood 2 is the only Monolith game youve played. No One Lives Forever, AVP2, and FEAR are all really well done pre-CoD4 shooters.
