…my first thought, too, but no: they have many mechanical applications but wankel rotors use slightly flatter geometry…
As somebody who knows nothing about this, I find wankel hilarious. Right up there with cockburn valves.

Does it help in any way? All of mine are just normal guitar pick shaped.
According to Wikipedia, the benefit is that this shape has 3 tips, and assuming that you use all 3 tips, it will last 3 times as long.
In practice this means you can achieve an annual savings on your guitar picks budget of about 1$.
