Summary

The General Services Administration (GSA) is removing all EV chargers from federal properties, citing that they are “not mission-critical.”

The move aligns with Trump’s broader rollback of green energy initiatives, including efforts to override California’s EV mandates.

The GSA will also phase out electric vehicles purchased under the Biden administration. Critics see this as part of a broader GOP effort against clean energy.

The decision comes as Trump also pauses $3 billion in public EV charger funding.

But wasting money removing something already paid for and done, that employees rely on and costs basically nothing, is “mission critical?” Idk. Seems kinda… Inefficient.

Why even remove them? Sell or lease them to a company that maintains them.

Malicious, vindictive bullshit. That’s what this is.

Same reason why Reagan ripped the White House’s solar panels out that Carter had installed.

The GOP is a party of hate and spite to disguise stealing money to give to the wealthy.

Here’s the thing very few liberals will understand: Republicans do this performative dance to waste government money and remove things like EV chargers and solar panels because, and I cannot emphasize this enough…

it appeases and even excites their base.

“Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.”

Doing shit like this shows their base that their team is in charge. That’s it. They could have let them stay in and their base wouldn’t have been the wiser. But doing it shows them that their team won.

Liberals don’t have a similar signal. Hell, I didn’t even know the GSA installed them. Not only that but liberals don’t care as much to “win” like this.

We just want to survive whereas conservatives want to oppress.

        That’s the difference.

Regan is a monster, that was at least while the roof was being resurfaced and they just didn’t put them back. They were just water heaters anyway, not photovoltaics.

This is solely spending more money to remove freshly installed government equipment for no reason.

How else will they blame the next administration of wasting taxpayer’s dollars by reinstalling them back again?

They simply can charge more for electricity and make a profit if it’s so bad for them to have been installed. This is a massive waste of resources. Just F off MAGA. Go suck more Saudi oil up your arse.

This very much annoys me. I am a left leaning libertarian (so probably considered Center Right), and this is stupid. Waste of money and labor. I am not really for the EV mandates because I respect a free market. But oil is heavily subsidized and thus not a free market, so charging infrastructure should get the same benefit to allow consumers to decide what works best for them. If low energy prices are a priority as their lip service indicates, then all forms should be treated equally. Government doesn’t get decide winners and losers. Lobbying is corruption.

I love my plug in hybrid. I would love to be able to charge at work. I also love gas and diesel, but I want to see where hydrogen and other cleaner combustion options can go for environmental reasons. Level playing fields is the main reason for Governments to exist.

Because scrapping existing things just because they’re not a throwback to the old gas guzzler days is surely going to save money and make things great again.

I’m kind of waiting for him to throw out a maximum fuel efficiency standard. You know, get them back to the good ol days of the 1970s 8/mpg Lincoln that weigh 2 tons.

I read that when Puttler increased his recent little tantrum in Ukraine there was an obvious shortage of petrol, but EVs could still get power which makes them a very good option to have in case of emergency.

    Alternatives energy sources are good.

They could just have turned off power, but I guess they’ll argue that then people would be able to steal the chargers, so it is better to sell them to their friend for a steep discount since they are used.

Then when the political climate shifts on the issue, they can just buy new expensive chargers from their other friend!

The chargers themselves aren’t super expensive in the grand scheme of the project. It’s the prep and grounds work that’s expensive… You’re on the right track, just a little off.

What they do is give the removal contract to their friend who inflates the cost, that’s the real money.

Aren’t they all supposed to migrate to NACS eventually? They could have said “we’re gonna give the contract for EV chargers for all Federal buildings to Tesla” instead.

I think you’d have to go through a bidding process and public comment period. /me shrugs

EVs are stupid anyway. We should just make enthusiast cars that are fun to drive with toll “roads” to race on like Germany, and then build public transportation while removing road lanes until there’s only enough for service vehicles.

We need infrastructure that makes sense. EVs only help car companies
