I just wanted to say thank you to the mods!
Anti-vax conspiracies are dangerous, and I greatly prefer the removal of dangerous misinformation to the dubious benefits of unmoderated freeze peach.
Many thanks to the OP as well, for an interesting post!
Amazing! Its such a wonderful time to be alive (and study biotech hehe), I am super optimistic about what we as an species can accomplish
mods, how come this post has several deleted comments? could we at least have a specific reason for deletion? here’s a few options for vaccine-related topics:
- comment was anti-vax, and everybody (most people online) hates anti-vax, often including mods
- comment makes bald claims and posts second-rate evidence (like scientific magazine articles instead of research papers)
- provocative behavior, inappropriate slang etc.
on such heated topics the reason must be stated, otherwise you will lose your subscribers.
That is why Lemmy has a build in moderation log: https://lemmy.ml/modlog/community/16
good to know! I guess it’s not showing in lemmur yet. indeed, the comments were (2)
I just read the deleted messages by the others and the reasons are ridiculous. The mods clearly impose their very personal opinion even on harmless issues.
Now I understand why Lemmy is so unpopular despite being well developed. It’s basically the moderators’ attempt to build their own happy island where they can only talk to like-minded people.
The advantage is that at least the main instance will not end up being the most numerous one. Soon many free instances will be opened and decentralization will be effective.
the reasons are cryptic. but you are basing your end of the discussion on .com web sites and magazines. this is not a proper way to claim evidence. you should be asking yourself, how can the other side reproduce, or follow your arguments, and provide links to support every important point you make.
half of medicine is a pseudoscience: you can’t reproduce many of the researches, due to the undisclosed data or proprietary recipes, and medical scientists often have a very vague idea of how to do statistical analysis (medical test paradox as explained here, changing data acquisition protocols, lack of transparency of how the data was collected and operated, and many more). that doesn’t mean, though, that magazines, a middle man, are a good place to refer to when arguing about it. others will support your discussion if they are worth talking to.
Man, I’m not pretending this is the truth, I’m just saying mine are legitimate ideas and I have the right to express them. This is censorship, period.
this (lemmy.ml) is a face instance, censorship is expected here (and skeptically frowned upon). admins ban on face instances quite aggressively. my point being, ideas are easier to silence than evidence. but then, isn’t that the point of evidence. in that case, I would’ve been on your side without discussing this.
“conspiracy” is clearly a misunderstanding by the mod but he won’t admit it. The reason of moderation must be objective. Here instead there is a (bad) assumption by the mod. “Bad” because as I said I refuse both “anti-vax” and “conspiracy theory” labels.
Also I find “conspiracy nerd” to be offensive and I think his intention was that.
How does one formally ask for his comments to be restored in cases like this?
Removed by mod
Sure - medical personnel around the world killed millions of people just to make a campaign for a vaccine because other therapy would be too cheap. Sounds totally plausible. They wouldn’t make that “incredibly effective” therapy more expensive instead because that’s not how free market works and higher demand doesn’t increase price.
Also that’s not what the article was about - it was about using similar technology for malaria infection prevention as is used by some of covid vaccines.

Here in Italy we have thousands of doctors who coordinate in Whatsapp chats and Facebook groups and have treated tens of thousands of people. Would you like to join those groups and accuse them of being fake and that Sars-Cov2 infection cannot be cured?
Yes it can be cured. With a vaccine. that’s why many different countries are pouring millions of dollars into this effort. Are you saying you don’t believe these vaccines are actually effective?
No, you didn’t understand what I said. I better explained my thought in my reply to you. Next time ask for clarification before deleting comments with big assumptions by you.
Also man, saying Sars-Cov2 can’t be cured is bold. Are you serious about this or are you provocative? Be caureful, someone could misinterpret what you wrote. 😂
A study published by The American Journal of Medicine confirms what I said: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0002934320306732#!
How many proofs do you pretend to restore my comments?
This is a study published in Science which among other things states that when Sars-Cov2 goes to the endemic phase there will be no need for the vaccine and that social distancing is probably counterproductive on this:
“The model code provides a flexible scaffolding for studying alternative vaccination scenarios. Notably, the model predicts that once the endemic state is reached, mass vaccination may no longer be necessary to save lives.”
“Should the vaccine cause a major reduction in transmission, it might be important to consider strategies that target delivery to older individuals for whom infection can cause higher morbidity and mortality, while allowing natural immunity and transmission to be maintained in younger individuals.”
“Additionally, during the transition to endemicity, we need to consider how the immune efficacies depend on primary and secondary infections across ages and how responses differ between vaccination and natural infection.”
“The key result from our model framework that explicitly recognizes that functional immunity to reinfection, disease, and shedding are different is that, in contrast with infections that are severe in childhood, SARS-CoV-2 could join the ranks of mild, cold-causing endemic HCoVs in the long run.”
“The transition from epidemic to endemic dynamics is associated with a shift in the age distribution of primary infections to lower age groups. This transition may take anywhere from a few years to a few decades, depending on how quickly the pathogen spreads. The rate of spread, measured by R0, is determined by a combination of viral properties and the frequency of social contacts and may therefore be reduced by social distancing.”
Can you please stop posting completely not Malaria vaccine related stuff in this thread?
Furthermore posting some highly speculative scientific literature now does not absolve you from posting mostly unscientific and long debunked stuff earlier (the messages that got deleted by the moderator).
Debunked? Here in Italy we have thousand of doctors that does what I said to treat Sars-Cov2.
Do you have the courage to write to these groups and associations “you are fake and you are not treating anyone”?
Yes, and anyone claiming the opposite is wilfully endangering lives.
Wait a second… you think that each individual country’s efforts ( China, Russia, US, Cuba ) to create their own vaccines, are each “scams” by each of those country’s medical professionals?
Did you delete my comment?
Yes, you can check the modlog, we don’t allow anti-vaxx like conspiracy theorists here. Answer the question above, if covid is “cured”, then why are all these countries separately developing vaccines?
From Lemmy’s code of conduct:
- “Respect that people have differences of opinion and that every design or implementation choice carries a trade-off and numerous costs. There is seldom a right answer.”
Apparently this doesn’t apply for the Admin.
- “We will exclude you from interaction if you insult, demean or harass anyone. That is not welcome behavior. We interpret the term “harassment” as including the definition in the Citizen Code of Conduct; if you have any lack of clarity about what might be included in that concept, please read their definition. In particular, we don’t tolerate behavior that excludes people in socially marginalized groups.”
So calling someone a “conspiracy nerd” isn’t considered a insult?
I’m not saying that I agree or disagree with @disrooter but this kind of censorship is very dangerous. If you don’t agree to someone, isn’t that why the down-vote button is there?
You can spread anti vaxx conspiracy theories elsewhere, we don’t allow them here. Two people pm’d me about disroots comment in an hour.
As I said in my other reply, you and whoever told me had to ask for clarification first.
Yeah this is censorship but I disagree with a point: I think the downvote button is for not-relevant comments, not the one we disagree with.
Even controversial comments should be upvoted if relevant. Otherwise the votes will reward demagogy and kill the debate, and in the long term will make ideas stagnate or regress and creating more extremism.
P.S. “Anti-vax” and “conspiracy theory” are labels you are using. Let it be clear that I completely reject them.
I made a consideration on how the media present the vaccines for Sars-Cov2. Your reaction seems exaggerated and compulsive to me.
First you deleted the comment and then you asked for an explanation. Does it seem normal to you?
Answer this question, why are different country’s all developing vaccines?
This question is based on wrong assumptions by you about my ideas.
Vaccines are tools. Your decision on when and how to use tools is based on the available informations. I said media have a conflict of interest and their information is not objective.
You have proved that I am right: you do not know that Sars-Cov2 infection can be cured because the media do not talk about it enough or even boycott the treatments.
The fact that the infection can be cured doesn’t make vaccines completely useless, that’s your conclusion. But if all people were properly informed, many would prefer not to get the vaccine and Big Pharma would have less money. The media are presenting the vaccine as the solution to the pandemic and saying this is not true is not an “anti-vax conspiracy theory”.
If you are a doctor I can show you the groups and organizations of thousands of Italian doctors who for a year have treated tens of thousands of people with protocols known all over the world. You can go to them to ask for technical clarifications if you are a doctor. You can also try to contact them and tell them that what they do is all fake and the infection cannot be cured, if you have the courage.
Instead, I expect an apology and my comment restored. Your inability to understand what I have written cannot interfere with my freedom of thought. You and whoever reported me had to ask for clarification first.
Here there is the source, a list of citations used by Didier Raoult to motivate his protocol:
As of April 2017, he had over 104,000 citations and an h-index of 148. He is also on the list of the 400 most cited authors in the biomedical world.
Now restore my comment.
