This could actually have positive effects:

People might realize how little consumer tax actually affects them and get bored when PP makes it a cornerstone of his campaign.

There is literally nothing the GST/HST tax break helps me with, but the one thing i did appreciate for new parents was diapers.

I’d rather not have a lame attempt at bribery for votes …

Plus all services are being slowly dwindled because money is tight…so they make it tighter?

No tax on a few trinkets of garbage is stupid and I refuse to participate in this and vote buying scheme brought to you by the one and useless, useless doug ford.

Heck, a smart thing to do would be continue charging tax, AND demand that all stores display the tax INCLUDED in the cost of goods. County still runs properly and doesn’t need to rely on driving offenses to increase plus people can see how much things actually cost prior to buying for once

For clarification, this tax break is on a federal level.

The dwindling services you speak of are either provincial or municipal, but not federal.

The tax break has nothing to do with those services.

But I agree that we can do better, and I’d love to see “all in” prices displayed as a default.

Underconsumption is cooler than a tax break.

What happens if a retailer doesn’t update their SKU codes in time for Christmas and charges GST on items that are GST exempt? But does figure it out before it’s time to make a remittance?

There’s always the option to claim back inappropriately taxed funds. There are lots of situations where specific individuals are exempt from GST on various items, and SKUs are almost never set up to accommodate that.

Keep your receipts and you can claim them on the gc.ca website.
