I mean, the market for live-service games is absolutely oversatured as is. Live-service hero shooters are also dime a dozen (Overwatch, Paladins, Apex Legends etc) and have their dedicated niches. When an entirely new IP tries to enter when other established IPs may be struggling already, what did Sony expect?

I find it silly that every game nowadays needs to have some form live-service component. Just release a game and let it be. Why change and patch it a hundred times if you can just release a solid package one time and reap your benefits?

Like, compare Diablo 2 Resurrected (display name and profile pic definitely not related) to Diablo 4. They put out patches semi-regularly for D2 and it’s brilliant. The game is 20+ years old and blows D4 out of the water by a huge margin (might be a little biased). D4 had a biblical start and is easily Blizzard’s fastest-selling game at release, but look at it now. They’ve made efforts to make the game better with adjustments and patches, and the new add-on might even be ok, but I don’t think they’ll be getting back their momentum any time soon

Wow, that’s a lot of pandering to Sony in that article. The author obviously doesn’t want to say what the game actually is like for fear of being negative and losing company-wide access to Sony game review copies.

The game isn’t bad, but I am hesitant to call it good

Just say it. I will say it, because I don’t care about losing access to Sony review copies:

The game is bad. Its not fun, it’s in an oversaturated market, the character designs are pretty ugly, the whole game is uninspired. Its like a bootleg Guardians of the Galaxy for its character design and bootleg mobile Overwatch for the gameplay. It does nothing to actually improve on the hero shooter gameplay that has existed for 10+ years.

Perhaps if the game came out like 8 or 10 years ago and had actually good looking character designs it maybe could have been successful. Maybe. But as it stands there is no reason to play this instead of already existing hero shooters like Overwatch and Paladins.

EDIT: It also really doesn’t help when the developers call people that criticize the game “talentless freaks.”

I had to look up the talentless freaks quote, I think it matters that’s just the opinion of one former animator, not someone currently at the company.

I don’t know, Skill Up said a similar thing as well in his videos, so I’m inclined to think that it’s true.

Have you played the game to say so ?

Sony hero shooter with Sony characters would have appealed to me more at least thematically.

Give me Bentley rolling around in his suped up wheelchair shooting dudes in the face, then we’ll talk.
